Who are these people called Baptist? Part 12

When Paul met the disciples of John in Ephesus in Acts 19, he did not ask them the regular questions a Baptist would ask, today. He did not ask them to give their “salvation story” or their “personal experience with Jesus,” Paul ask them a question the Baptist church STILL cannot answer!! “Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?” Paul’s question was very apropos, had these people already been Christians, they would have already known of God’s gift to all who had been baptized into Christ. God’s plan to sustain them as Christians was not revealed BEFORE Christianity existed! The Baptist Church will tell you today about its “once saved always saved” program, but will never relate to you how God intended to keep his children pure “in Christ.” Their only doctrine on the Holy Spirit is the miraculous work done in the first century. They do not realize that God “gives the Spirit to all them that obey Him” so we who have been saved from our sins by the blood of Christ, can get all the way home, safely! Acts 5:32 The very fact that they know nothing about this tells the whole story.
The Baptist Church does not teach in any sense the gift of the Holy Spirit! The baptism of preparation and perfection must never to be confused! Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who come from the Baptist Church into the Lord’s church thinking that they do not have to be baptized as they say, “again.” Preachers of the gospel who do not understand the difference between the two baptisms sometimes allow them entrance into the membership of the body of Christ on their Baptist baptism and keep them from entrance into the kingdom of God! They may not mean any harm, but they keep the individuals that they accept on their Baptist baptism from the blood of Christ. A person cannot “be taught wrong and baptized right!!” One cannot be taught they are saved before they are baptized, as do the Baptist, and still be baptized to be saved! Entering into the gates of heaven has but one path-Christ said He was the way, and no man comes in any other way will will!!
The Baptist are always asking about the thief on the cross. Did anybody ever asked the thief on the cross if he’d received the Holy Spirit? Why?? One of the easiest ways to explain the difference in the baptism of preparation and the baptism of salvation is what the apostle Paul through inspiration of the Holy Spirit expressed to the 12 at Ephesus! The genius of the question is seen in the clarity this expresses to explain the difference in the two baptisms. When discussing the question of baptism with a member of the Baptist Church, it is a good thing to ask if they have received the Holy Spirit and particularly stress the word since you believed! What means this since you believed? Jesus commanded “he that believes and is baptized shall be saved.” It is obvious that people do not understand what is meant by the command believe. Thayer says in the New Testament sense, it means conviction and trust impelled by a certain inner prerogative and law of the soul, to trust in Jesus as able to aid either in obtaining salvation or doing something to be saved. Now, if a person does not trust the Lord nor does he believe what Christ has said, he cannot be said to be a believer. If one is not a believer he is not invited by our Lord to be baptized! The difference between the invitation of the Lord and Baptist preacher is extremely great!! It matters IN WHOM you have put your trust when you are baptized, if you to go to heaven!! Meeting the blood of Christ in the water of baptism can never be a reality for a person who is not a believer IN CHRIST. The baptism of John, then, is not in any way like the baptism for salvation that Jesus had preached by His apostles, so no one baptized in the Baptist Church would ever be considered a member of the Church of Christ!! The baptism of salvation, in water, is always demanded of one who wants to be baptized into the Christ. By the way, the thief on the cross was never a member the Church of Christ or of the Baptist Church, either!! He died before either of them came into existence!! He is the favorite of error in trying to show baptism is not essential but in fact, he shows the opposite.

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 11

When we attack the salvation experience of a Baptist, they think we are attacking them. It brings all kinds of emotions. One of which is usually anger. Error has a secret hiding place, it is in the heart of those who are not drawn to the light!! John 6:44 When pride and conceit set on the throne in the heart of any individual, truth has no place. “A strong man, armed, keeps his palace, his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divides his spoils.” Luke 11:21-22 When we find people who will defend their false actions and in doing so contradict the words of the God of heaven, we meet people in serious, spiritual trouble!! Their first impulse is to defend their pride, the pride of their parents who taught them, or the good name of the Baptist preacher that was the herald of their damnation! They have satisfaction in the arms of error, but we approach with the truth and the sleeping sinner is aroused to light and like an old dog awakened out of its sleep, the first instinct may be to bite you.
The baptism of preparation that was taught by Jesus and John the Baptist has a likeness to the baptism of salvation taught by the apostles of Jesus Christ, only in the fact that it is total submersion. Remembering that the purpose of the baptism of preparation was to get ready to enter the kingdom of God, otherwise, it was of no value. To refuse the fact that the kingdom was coming, and nigh at the door, in this, it was for preparation, and its coming allowed people to be ready for the Kingdom when it came, gives rise for some to think that these two baptisms were the same! So one can see why premillennialism and Baptist preaching go hand-in-hand. The Baptist have never taught that the baptism of perfection in the forgiveness of sins came into existence on the day of Pentecost. When John sent his disciples to Jesus in Matthew chapter 11, the question John asked the Lord is often misunderstood. John wanted to know of the Lord if he had done what he had been sent to do. The Lord answered him thusly: “Go and show John, again (John had seen them in the O.T.), those things which you do now see and hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them, and the blessed are those who are not in offended in Me, does that not convince you, John?”
When Paul met the disciples of John and Ephesus, there were things established by the verbiage he communicated. The kingdom is already come gentlemen, you do not continue to preach the baptism of preparation; having been baptized in the baptism of preparation you’re entitled to the baptism of salvation. As proof of the fact that your baptism is not the baptism of the King of Kings, have you received the Holy Spirit, since you believed? John’s baptism never included a mention of the Holy Spirit but the first time we hear of the baptism of perfection, recorded by Luke in Acts, chapter 2, it was mentioned!! Many have not paid too much attention to it!! The answer, was to repent and be baptized first, for the remission of sins, and secondly, to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The questioneers’s at Pentecost never ever had heard of the Spirit of God. The gift for which they inquired was the knowledge from God as to how to be forgiven of crucifying His son! (Without the knowledge of how, their forgiveness could never be actuated!!) What the Holy Spirit had to do with the subject of the forgiveness of sins, was not at Pentecost, explained! (The gift of the Holy Spirit was to sustain, not forgive, and since these people were asking to become Christians, not asking how to be sustained as Christians, the explanation was not needed.) He, the Spirit, was not in their minds nor were they questioning how they might receive Him. That the message of the reception of the Holy Spirit had since been taught and explained, the apostle Paul addresses to these Ephesians. Like them, you would been astounded! John, nor his disciples, had ever mentioned such a thing!! The Holy Spirit was a member of that God nature that had never been discussed in Judaism. Not only were these Ephesians learning about another member that was older than time, they were hearing, possibly for the first time that there was a Holy Spirit, and then there was a gift that Paul offered them which they had never heard about!

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 10

The Baptist Church teaches that an alien center is saved when he has faith, when it comes into his heart, before and without water baptism. There are many versus in Scripture which confuses them because they do not rightly divide the scriptures. What causes their misunderstanding is their problem is their refusal of separating the Old Testament Scriptures from the New. They do not believe that there is distinctive difference. They also are not instructed in the fact that John and Jesus taught a baptism of preparation and that Jesus had His apostles teach the baptism of salvation. Acts 2:38
To whom did John and Jesus preach? They preached to the Jewish people who came back from Babylonian captivity and some remnants that had stayed behind when Nebuchadnezzar had taken the Jews to Babylon. These were people who had Old Testament faith, they had been taught the law of Moses in a fashion. Forgiveness of sin was an impossible attainment. It is important to know to whom you are speaking so the address will be one that would be instructive. In the days of Jesus and John,
Gentiles were not even considered! There were many laws that the Jew was attempting to obey AS children of God, whereas the Gentile had EVER considered themselves children of God. Matthew 15:26-27 If a person thinks themselves a child of God and a saved individual then you waste your time by beginning to try to teach them what to do to be saved. The first thing you got to do is get them lost. If you can’t do that what you teach them will go in one ear and out the other!!
When you destroy their “personnel faith” so they can see that before God they are lost most think you have gone too far! It takes a lot of love for a person to interfere in what they “feel” is a personal relationship with the Lord and you want to take that away from them, but, the job of the Christian soldier is to do that very thing. Acts 4:12 states: “neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven whereby man can be saved. “ With the unsuspecting, we must begin our discussion. The Baptist make a living ingraining into their people the fact that their hearts is the determinant factor. Their heart is the judge and they have a salvation story to PROVE their story! If they have a strong feeling that peace between them and Christ has been established, you have a real battle to try to show them that their feelings do not change one word of the New Testament. Either Jesus has all authority are none!! Sure, it can be proved that their salvation is not real, you’re attacking their heart, feelings, personal satisfaction that has been established to which they attest. In essence, if you’re not careful, you’re basically accusing them of not being accurate with the truth. They will often respond: “no one has ever told me that before.” Most religionists like to be left alone this battle had already been fought and won, or they thought it had!! Because they are satisfied with the results of their praying to Jesus, that they made peace with God, they think you’re really interfering in their business when all you’re trying to do is help them save their soul!!
One of the first things Baptist will tell you is that they have prayed to Jesus. You ask: “where did you get the idea you could do that?” It matters not how many verses of Scripture that you show them to the contrary, they still feel a personal salvation with the Lord has been established. Let’s establish a fact from the start, there is no Baptist ever baptized (1) a sinner-they baptize saved people (2) for or in order to receive remission of sin or (3) to meet the blood of Christ!! It just has not happened-in fact Baptist preachers swear an oath on the Bible that they will not baptized sinners they only baptize saved people. They will in fact tell you they were saved like the thief on the cross and he did not have to be baptized. Having already discussed that subject let me remind you that the thief and all of his brethren thought they were children of God under the Old Testament covenant, therefore they were not looking to save their souls for they WERE JEWS!! The people in the Baptist Church say the same things, WE WERE ALREADY SAVED! Baptist baptism makes you a member of the local Baptist church!

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 9

It is an unwarranted assumption that when John baptized a man or woman they were made Baptists and those in turn that they baptized were Baptists. If this was the case, then our Lord being baptized of John would have to have been said to have membership in the Baptist church! There is not a passage in all of holy writ which states this as fact. NONE were called “Baptist”, except John!! If there is ONE indication as to what John’s converts were called it is in Matthew 9:14. “Then came to Him the disciples of John, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but Thy disciples fast not?” By the way, the name Baptist does not glorify Christ. 1 Peter 4:16 states: “If any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify (praise, honor, adorn with luster, impart glory to) God on this behalf (by this name).” Baptism glorifies an ordinance, act or obedience, not the Savior!! Again, if you can find out where the Bible mentions TWO Baptists, I will drop the contention about using the name!!
An act performed upon ones person does not make the person on whom the act has been performed the same in kind of a being as the administrator of the act. Example: a doctors patient does that make the patient a doctor? A man rides a car: does that make the car a man? Methodists sprinkle babies: are babys, sprinklers? If Rich Singleterry, a short order specialists and lawn maintenance owner, baptizes John Wilson, a painter, does John Wilson become a short order specialists and a lawn maintenance owner? Parents spank their children (or used to) did that make the children, parents?
If all John baptized became Baptist because John baptized them, all who Paul baptized became paulinians. It is not strange that those John baptized, did not become Johns, just Baptist!! Also, a Baptist church can nowhere exist where there is not a plurality of members (one of them in our area just closed its doors). There is NOWHERE in the Bible where the mentioning of TWO Baptist exist. There, then, must have been NO Baptist church in the New Testament!! There IS the mentioning of several Churches of Christ in the New Testament: “Salute one another with a holy kiss; the Churches of Christ salute you.” Romans 16:16 “And I was unknown by face unto the Churches of Christ in Judaea.” Galatians 1:21
Did all who were charter members of the Baptist church that were baptized by John in the Jordan River members of the Baptist church? Then, Jesus was a member of the Baptist church: agreed? Of those Jesus had His disciples baptize while John would have been making more members of the Baptist church, what were they? John 4:1 “And Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John. (Though Jesus himself baptize not, but His disciples.) ”What did Jesus call those disciples that His disciples baptize?? It couldn’t have been. Baptist. John had nothing to do with it! It couldn’t have been members of the Church of Christ for she whom Christ shed His life’s blood had not come into existence!
We find the location of the Church of Christ in Jerusalem when it came into existence, can you help me with the location of the Baptist church that would have had to have preexisted the Church of Christ? Can you find me the location of the Roman Catholic Church in AD 33 (which would have had to pre-exist the Church of Christ), if the Roman Catholic church was the first church?
I had a man come to be baptized into Christ that had been turned down by a Baptist church in town for not having a high school education. During investigation I found out that no man is a member of the Baptist Church that the Baptist Church will not accept as a candidate for baptism! Some Baptist church has to sanction their baptism! Wonder who or what sanctioned the baptisms of John and those of Christ disciples? (You can forget the high school diploma, too)!!
John and Jesus disciples baptism was a baptism of preparation. They were to prepare the Jews and the Jews only for the coming kingdom. No Gentile was ever baptized by John or Jesus disciples. Again, find a Gentile, show us his or her name in the New Testament, please don’t make me wait too long!!

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 8

It is an unwarranted assumption that John was called a Baptist before he ever baptized. The Bible teaches in Luke 1:13 “and thou shalt call his name John.” In Luke 1:60, his mother Elizabeth declared “he shall be called John.” Zacharias, his father, while he was still dumb and could not speak, “ask for a writing table, and wrote, saying, his name is John. And they marveled.” John, the apostle who wrote by direction of the Holy Spirit said ”and there was a man sent from God whose name was John.” The Holy Spirit instructed John and Luke to give him a name that was John. There is nowhere in prophecy or any other place where there is an indication he would be known as “the Baptist” prior to his baptizing! According to Zacharias, prophecy 30 years before John began baptizing, the following titles might have applied scripturally and logically. He would be called a prophet, Luke 1:76– he would be called a forerunner, same verse, he would be called a preparer, same verse, a would be called a knowledge giver, Luke 1:77, he would be called a light giver, Luke 1:79, are he could have been called of feet guider. Luke 1:79. The first mention of him as a baptizer was in connection with his mission. Matthew 3:1 – 2.
He was known only as John until he began preaching. Luke 1:1-4 “for as much as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us. Even as they deliver them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; it’s in good for me and thee also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, that thou might us know the certainty of those things wherein thou has been instructed.” It is obvious from Luke’s introductory statement to his gospel that in his Gospel he proposed to write in order “all things from the very first.” This is Luke’s own statement as inspired by the Spirit to write of the matter! This is either true, accepted as truth, or not true. Luke wrote that he had perfect understanding. Those who believe the Bible believe Luke told the truth; so when he spoke of John, in every instance in which he is mentioned him by name, Luke only calls him John, it follows that from the beginning he was called John– not John the Baptist!
In Luke 3:1-3, “in the 15th year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar-the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness..” As you can tell here, he was not called the Baptist. It might be worth a comment that Luke’s gospel gives the record of John before he began baptizing while Matthews Gospel mentions him first in connection with his reason for baptizing!. The term was used to designate and distinguish John from other John’s spoken in the Gospels. A note of interest, there were times he was called the Baptist, and John was never mentioned! The American Union Translation of the New Testament abolishes the name Baptist, and gives the true translation-immercer. I might also note, John was never called a Baptist preacher-nowhere, ever was he referred to as a Baptist! You have to mutilate or change the word of God to get from the Bible that John was a Baptist or a Baptist preacher!! Another interesting note, is that no other John who had that as a name, was also known as a Baptist. If you can find were the Bible speaks of two Baptist, I will personally apologize to you!
If all John baptized became Baptist because John baptized them, then by the same reasoning all Christ had baptized became Christians! It is strange that of all the Baptist John made, none of them were ever called by their first name plus the Baptist that is recorded. Can a church be a Baptist church and not wear the name Baptist church? You can change the dress you wear but still preach the same damnable lies!! Why did they not immerse for the first 80 years?? There is a major difference in being called a Baptist and being baptized! Was John himself ever baptized!!
Baptist have quit baptizing for the remission of sin!! Confusing?? If a Supreme Court justice baptized a prisoner, does that make a Supreme Court judge out of the prisoner? When Paul baptized the household of Stephanas, did that make all the household apostles? Since all preachers are men, and one of them baptizes a woman, did that make the woman a man?

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 7

It is interesting to note that the people who call themselves Baptists have no way to determine that reality. John the Baptist and his ancestors were physical Jews. They spoke a language, called Aramaic, and never spoke English. John the Baptist never attended a day of school in his life, and ever, as far as the Scriptures record, attend an assembly at the temple in Jerusalem. There are things that are said about John they give us a lot of his history, but one thing is never said-than he ever was under the authority of the English King, never was in Amsterdam, and never ever questioned whether baptism is immersion, sprinkling, are pouring. That “much water there”in speaking of the way John baptized, gives it away!!
John the Baptist is the only man in human flesh that ever baptized a saved individual. When Jesus Christ came to be baptized of John he had no sin! As a God,Christ came in human flesh to John to be baptized to be introduced as the sin offering for the Church of Christ. Some have asked why John could not be baptized by Jesus. The answer is simple, Christ had not shed His blood which He was to offer before God the Father after His resurrection. “Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin.” “The blood of bulls and goats in the ashes of a heifer could not take away sin.“ When Jesus and John met that day, the blood of an animal was the only blood that had ever been presented on a Jewish altar. It was ”the Lamb of God,” not the Lamb of the Jew that would remove sin!
Did John and Jesus preached five years, “baptism for the remission of sin” which included the idea that the sin can be rolled ahead until the blood of Christ HAD BEEN shed and miss a man who was hung on the torture stake right beside Jesus Christ? The Baptist Church brags about the fact that the thief on the cross was not baptized, that he didn’t need to be, that he was saved by faith only. IF I were a Baptist preacher, I would be embarrassed to preach that doctrine. If the thief on the cross was never baptized-that means he was never a Baptist! In their “how-to manual” that I read the other day from the Baptist Church, they tell you implicitly that baptism has nothing to do with your salvation. If John had not been baptized by the disciples of Jesus or by John or his disciples, if it proves nothing more, it proves that the thief on the cross was not a Baptist-one and less soul lied to, the thief- the thief was emphatically saved! For the thief to be saved, he had to have been circumcised the eighth day by Jewish priest. I don’t think Baptist preachers have ever been in that business now!
Every time John preached, that is recorded, he was preaching that the kingdom of heaven was nigh at hand, near at the door. John baptized the Jew, and the Jew lonely, that they may be ready to enter into the kingdom when it came “not many days hence.” The Baptist Church does not teach that the kingdom has come yet, they teach that the pre-millennial reign of Christ will be when the kingdom comes to the world-they call it “Christ thousand year reign.” If all the people John baptized were dead in 50 years, was he mocking them, getting them wet for nothing?? That would’ve been a bad joke!!
John the Baptist never spoke English. Since the Baptist Church began in 1603 A.D., had John ever ventured into one of their assemblies, he would have been to them “a barbarian.” 1 Corinthians 14:11 If John had gone to China, how would his Aramaic have worked?? Any of his disciples ever preach a message speaking in a foreign or a different language than John spoke? Their message was only to the Jews, to whom John had been sent to prepare the way of the Lord.
John ever take the Lord Supper. Had they partaken, what would the content of the cup? I’m not saying they couldn’t partake, it would mean no more to them than being baptized in water thinking they were already saved! Was this another bad joke?? How many Easter observances and monde Thursdays did John miss at 6 AM? Where did that get that idea? Baptist assemble on Saturday??

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 6

It has been shown from the last two articles, that Baptist people are not associated or kin to John the Baptist. How they came about with their name and their doctrine has previously been discussed. If they knew not John the Baptist, it is for sure they had no kinship with our Lord! The doctrines that they teach hail from the 13th 14th and 15th centuries, not the first or second century. Their doctrines are rebuttals in many cases to the false doctrine of Roman Catholicism and its tenets. Their “faith only” “believe in Jesus, only,” “works nullify grace” are contradictory doctrine to the church of Rome.
The Scriptures teach that the church of the New Testament, is known as the Baptist Church, and was established during the personal ministry of Christ. The problem with this supposition is that “a testament cannot exist as long as the testator lives!! Hebrews 9:16-17 There could then be no new new testament church until after Christ died! If the Baptist Church came into existence during Christ personal ministry, then the gospel of Christ was effective before Christ had authority to preach it! Every time they tell you something about the New Testament before the New Testament came into effect or before Christ died, you have to revert back to Hebrews 9:16 – 17. Just in case you may have never read that verse of Scripture, let me cite that for you right now. “For where testament is, there must also be the death of the testator. For a testament is a force after men are dead, otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator to lives.” Please explain to me then how the New Testament covenant could be in effect before the death of He who made that covenant, our Lord Jesus Christ.
They will tell you that the New Testament church is the Baptist Church, that the New Testament churches the Baptist Church existed during Christ personal ministry, and that the Baptist Church became effective before the New Testament church. The problem is you probably never read this in the Bible, and that historically, the Baptist Church of which you have heard did not begin until 1603. If I can count that’s about 1600 years after Christ established his church in AD33, 9 o’clock on Sunday morning. I find no place in the Scriptures themselves that teach anything about a Baptist Church, speak of its existence anywhere the apostle Paul preached, or told a way to enter its membership in the entirety of the New Testament. Could the New Testament Scriptures be so blatantly silent about what Jesus gave his life blood to purchase? All they need to do is presented passage(s) that mention the church called the Baptist. We will accept one in the Old Testament, even, if they have one to give us!! To present the verse of Scripture that names the Baptist Church as an existent entity before the church of Christ came into existence in AD 33 will forever settled the problem. Right!!
You might do as I have done. I was born in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1945. Before 1945, I was not. I did not even owe anyone anything before I was born!! The problem with this doctrine is it is just not true. John and Jesus thought the kingdom was at hand, nigh at the door! These were prophecies about something that would be, not already was! You can do as I have done, ask them if Judas was in the kingdom? Then refer them to Mark 9:1. Was Nicodemus in the kingdom? Was Zaccheus in the kingdom? Was the rich young ruler in the kingdom? Was Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob!!
There are terms and appellations that describe different functions that people can fulfill. A human being of the male gender is generally called a man, but that man could be called a father, that man can be called a Christian, that man can be an American. These adjectives define the man. The kingdom, the church, the bride, the pearl of great price and many other appellations described the same institution, just different facets of that institution. Jesus is the King of the kingdom, He is the head of the church, He is the groom who married the bride, He purchased the pearl of great price. Until all authority was given to Christ, until He sat down on His holy Hill in Zion, until the regeneration took place-Matthew 19:28 HE WAS NONE OF THESE!! These same principles exist when you use the name church or bride. None of these ever refer to the Baptist, by the way.

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 5

It is more than confusion try to keep the ancestry of Philip the King. He is most the time referred to as Herod Philip. He had the unfaithful wife, Herodias, who was responsible for John’s death when John had raised an uproar about her marriage and was embarrassed by John in pubic. She determined to have John put out of the way. All history records the alienation and ire of the Jewish people by the deed she forced Herod into. She asked for the head of John the Baptist by Salome. Herod had made a real stupid promise, all He had to say was I promised you do a gift, I did not offer to commit murder! Sometimes, when men are trying to impress other men they overstepped themselves. In Leviticus 18:16 and 20:21 it was unlawful for a man to have his brother’s wife. Herod was an Edomite, yet, he was bound by a law of God called instinct or nature. It is shameful that a man of such great morality and courage could be so easily killed by a woman who had none. History records that even the Roman world set themselves against Herod. Herodias was stripped of her royalty and sent off to spend the rest of her life with Herod.
In Matthew 14:1-14, Herod conscience had so messed with him that Herod even confused Christ with John the Baptist, like the Baptist Church does today. The guilty conscience(the usual complement of atheism) held no sway with the Christ. Christ was not sympathetic to his plea. Herod got the message of Jesus and John the Baptist confused, he thought John the Baptist preached John was to resurrect from the dead-wrong prophet!!
Preachers may be silenced, and imprisoned, and even banished, but the word of God will still be preached. The prophets may not live forever, but when the word of God seizes control of the hearts and minds of men, it will strive with man. It is true, like the blood of Abel, “blood can cry out of the ground” and “make the devils fear and tremble,” even though they will not repent! They will never be at peace with themselves. There may evidence of the terror of strong conviction yet, no saving conversion!! God accepts no man or woman’s person, all men are subject to the law of God! There may be times that preachers may be indiscreet and get away with it, but sometimes those in authority, without honor, are not restrained from wicked practices. A common error of power is supposed sovereignty.
And so Herod beheaded John. What did that gain him? And in whose eyes was he lifted higher? He who had been a blessing, after his death was now being blessed. A great deal of innocent blood will have been shed before time ends, who will gain? There was a voice silenced, a “burning, shining light was extinguished,” but God was glorified! The damsel and her mother may have triumphed for a moment, but condemned for eternity! Jerome writes that when John’s head was brought her, she gave herself the barbarous diversion of pricking the tongue with a needle. She thought she had stopped his message. She had made sport of a great man, her mother’s insatiable rage had made disciples weep and lament as the world rejoiced, yet like brother Stephen all they got out of it was the burial of the body-from that point on they had no joy, for the removal of this great preacher had advanced the kingdom of God. This was all he had dedicated his life to, anyway!!
Josephus mentions the death of John the Baptist in his book Antiquities 18.116 – 119, and adds, that a fatal destruction of Herod’s Army took place in his war with Arteas, King of the Petrea (whose daughter was Herod’s first wife, whom Herod put away to make room for Herodias). It was generally considered by the Jews to be just judgment upon Herod and Herodias who were both banished to Lyons in France, which says Josephus, was his just punishment for harkening to her solicitation. And lastly, the daughter of Herodias, skating on the ice that winter, fell through the ice, fell headlong, slit her neck on a rock so badly that it was severed from body. God had required her head for that of the Baptist. If true, this was a remarkable act of Providence. Sometimes it just does not pay to do the works of darkness! And where did John end up? In the arms of his beloved Lord! Comfort sometimes have no value, sometimes when taken, show us the “hand of God.”

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 4

When John the baptizer was leaving the scene of life, he turned his report card in to the Creator of all things, Jesus Christ, to be graded. John was now in prison, had he prepared the Way? His grade would be determined by the fulfillment of the prophecy concerning him; ”he came to prepare the way of the Lord, to make his paths straight.” John had heard that Jesus was in the area by the miracles that He was performing, had the “minds of the fathers been turned to the children,” or had the Jew sufficiently repented to accept the message of Christ? Repentance prepares people to receive God but it is faith that prepares people for the blessings of God Handing the baton to the King of Kings and Lord of lords was the most honorable of all occasions. ”I must decrease, He must increase.” It was not given to John to work miracles, the job given him by the Master of all Ages, was even greater. The message that John delivered to the Jew is never preached by the people who today claim his name: wonder why? John had one joy that he claimed for his own, this is the joy of introducing the Bridegroom to His bride. To introduce the bridegroom one has to understand there must be a bride. The bride was and is the church of Christ. John is on record as claiming Jesus Christ to be his friend, John 3:29, when he stood and heard Him, John’s joy was fulfilled. This joy could only be satisfying if the opportunity of this introduction had been received by the Friend. The joy was the occasion of this joy: John proclaimed the forthcoming marriage of Christ and His Church. The Baptist Church today does not preach of this joy, they, in fact, preach that John’s joy has been rescinded and that Christ marriage will not take place until the Second Coming. How could they get so far off message?
There was a message John delivered that John claimed the world would not receive; “The Father loves the Son, and has given all things over into His hand.” This was not an Abraham – Lot situation, no choice in this matter would be by God, allowed!! The Queen would be the closest thing to the heart of the King, the bride would be the closest thing to the heart of her Lord, to denounce the bride to return to His predecessor could never be anything considered at any time. John preach the end of the Jew as the chosen people of God, the Baptist Church today teaches the Jew is still God’s chosen and the church of Christ has no place of honor. How you get this far off message? How could any people who claim to love the God of heaven require Him to denounce His wife and go back to the one He would divorce because of unfaithfulness? The Baptist Church today, had it to attend the preaching of John the Baptist, would throw up its hands in disgust. There was nothing he was preaching-they believe. They do not accept the sole authority of the Son, nor the woman to whose hand He was given in marriage!! The Baptist Church today, does not accept the Father, in that period of time in Judea, marriages were prearranged, by the Father. So what message today do they preach? Jesus said in Matthew 11:6: “Blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in Me.” This word for offended means to see one in another light of which Christ did not approve. You cannot cast the net of the gospel to those who will not receive the message. Wisdom cries in the city at the entry of the gate that we hear the word of the Lord.
The return message of Jesus to John the Baptist made the prison a Palace, fear became nonexistent, and the purpose of a life of service, rewarded. For Christ conveyed to John, in the language befitting his dignity, “well done, my good and faithful servant, enter now into the joys of thy Lord.” Present circumstances being ignored are the benefit of faith. Christ friend and confidant did not need the doting words of approval that the unspiritual often require, he needed the restatement of purpose that both John and Jesus had come to do the will of the Father! If, there be a remaining insecurity and un-belief, it is often settled, in an hour of temptation, by a confidence of faith that only truth can settle!

Who are these people called Baptist? Part 3

What would have been the possibility of John the Baptist starting his own church? Was John Jesus competitor or was he the one sent to introduce the Jew to the Messiah? All the prophecies made of John the Baptist in the Old Testament, did any ever stipulate that he was to ever start a church? By what authority did John baptize people? Was John human and divine-are just human?
In John 3:28, the prophet John the Baptist answered and said, “A man can receive nothing except it be given him from heaven. You yourselves bear Me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before Him. He that hath the bride is the Bridegroom, but the friend of the Bridegroom, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. He that cometh from above is above all, he that is of the earth is earthly, He that cometh from heaven is above all. And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no man receives His testimony. For He whom God has sent speak of the words of God: for God gives not the Spirit by measure to Him. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. He that believes on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:27-36 John was either confused or the Baptist Church teaches a lie when they tell us that John came to start his church, and it was the Baptist Church. Had John started the Baptist Church, when Christ began his church the Baptist Church should have gone out of existence! Paul asked the disciples of John when he came into Ephesus “if they’d receive the Holy Spirit says they believed, they said they’d never heard of there be such a ‘Being’ as the Holy Spirit. He said to them; “John truly baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying under the people that they should believe on Him that should come after him that is on Christ. When they heard this they were baptized in the name of Christ”. Acts 19:1-5 Had John ever started a church, the apostle Paul put it out of business! In the Old Testament we know that Jesus church was prophesied to begin in Jerusalem and Isaiah 2:2-4, the prophet Isaiah said; “and the law shall go forth from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” Tell me my friend, one place that states where John’s church would start, where it should go forth, and from what city?
John was sent to introduce Jesus, not compete with the Creator of the universe! “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse” Malachi 4:5-6 John was a human being like you and I. Human beings are not supposed to start churches. Only God is supposed to start the church. John had a father as well as a mother. Jesus never had a physical father!! John had no brothers and sisters. Jesus had four brothers and sisters. John’s mother and daddy died when John was just a child. Christ mother saw him crucified!! Don’t tell me that people can’t tell the difference between John and Jesus!!
John’s message was clear. “Then said they to him, who art thou? That we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself. He answered and said into them, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord as said the prophet Isaiah.” And they which were sent where the Pharisees. And they asked him, and said to him, ‘why baptizes thou then’, if thou be not the Christ, nor Elias, neither that Prophet? John answered them, saying, ‘I baptize with water: but there stands one among you, whom ye know not, He it is whose coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to unloose.’ The next day John saw Jesus coming unto to him, and saith, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. He is preferred before me: for He was before me. THIS IS WHY I CAME BAPTIZING.
