Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 22

There is never a day that God has no plan for His children. When Jesus began in Matthew 7 ( His prohibition against judging), He mentioned magistrates and ministers whose office it is to judge. Christ, judges as we must judge—by the standards of another!! He came not to unmake Moses, for by him princes decreed justice. Christ directed who should hereafter “sit on thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel.” Matthew 19:28 Until this time came they were not judges!

The prohibition; judge not, did not mean that we did not judge ourselves, our actions, the way we treat our brother: neither did it allow us to assume authority over others, as we allow not them over us. Our rule is, to be subject to one another. The apostle James writes: “be not many masters,” James 3:1, for greater is your condemnation.” We cannot set in the judgment seat, and make our word law. We cannot speak evil of our brother. James 4:1 We must not despise him, nor set him at naught. Romans 14:10. We must not judge rashly, nor pass such judgment upon our brother that has no basis of truth, but is only the product of our own jealousy and immature nature. We must not think the worst of people, nor infer such evil things from words they speak or actions they take. Nor can we look in the spirit of revenge, or desire mischief, and particularly-without mercy! We should not measure our judgment by a single act, for in most instances we will judge, partially! We cannot judge the hearts of others, neither intentions, for it is God’s prerogative to try the heart, and we miss we must not step into His throne room!! We cannot determine who His castaways are, as He said in another place: “we cannot be the judge of another man’s servant!” He who usurps the bench, shall be called to the bar by the same standard that censors or has a stone to throw at others. They who have a reputation of showing no mercy to the reputation of others will be judged-and that by God and from Him they shall receive the “greater condemnation.” James 3:1 and the haughty There is quite a difference between the humble sufferer and the haughty scorner: all of us must be modest and charitable in our censures of our brothers, for we shall be judged by our Lord!! As God will forgive those who forgive their brethren; yet He will judge we that will not judge their brethren; the merciful shall find mercy. It is evidence of humility, charity, and deference to God, and shall be owned and rewarded by Him, accordingly. Romans 14:10

Judging those that judge others, many times comes about because of retaliation; as the Lord said: “with what judgment ye judge, you shall be judged.” God, in His judgments, often observed a rule of proportion as in the case of Adonibezek ,Judges 1:7  “70 Kings, have had their thumbs and the great toes cut off, who were gathered under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me…” It is true that God appoints service according to the strength He has given! Those that are most able, from them most work is expected. Judah was first in dignity, and therefore had to be first in battle. He it is from whom his brother receives much praise, is he who must do the most work! Service and success are put together. The burden of honor and the burden of work go together! Christ was from the tribe of Judah, the first enemy that He engaged as God, was His greatest enemy, Satan.  Christ, the lion of the tribe of Judah, has set for us an example. He engaged the powers of darkness first, and foiled them. This animates us for our conflict; and it is in Him that we are “more than conquerors.” And be it ever understood:, they who judge another in love, are their best friend!! To love one another, and serve one another gives reason to hope that God will graciously help in our every effort! Most misunderstood is the function of judging. It is done by the humble who use a higher authority than themselves without getting in their own way. This is the affirmation of our Lord wants most understood! We are to have no personal vendetta, would have the love of Christ; having that type of love we then adjudicate judgment based on His word, His commands, and His doctrine!! If it had been advantageous for us to try a man before misery, it is advantageous to lay at their both right and wrong.  Mercy after defeat is abuse. We do not ride the ritual bus nor attend the rule school, we sit at the feet of our Lord!!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 21

The importance of being “born from the beginning,” is mentioned from Genesis to Revelation, and is the single most important concept to humanity since Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden. Since the “fall,” God has required that mankind return to Him from the sinful state of thought, speech, and action that is contrary to the perfection Adam possessed. When we respond to the Spirit of God, our hearts become opened to this law and obeying, we are transformed into the image of God by allowing His word to so control our way of thinking. What this means is, we allow each part of our lives to be sanctified and set apart to God who gave us His word so we could re- establish and maintain inanimate spiritual connection between Him and us, and to protect us from self-destruction. All of the forefathers of our faith experienced this relationships with God through His Word, which means they were “born from the as was Adam from the beginning.” We went from living according to the desires and appetites of the natural man to living in the spiritual, a condition that existed before man sinned!

No one is exempt from the need of being spiritually born anew. The spirit of God prompts each one to return to a life that is pleasing to God, that which cannot occur without sinlessness.  Many souls are driven by idealism, justice, responding to the needs of others, or just plain survival when they realize that they themselves have been their own worst enemy. There is no new sin under the sun; just volunteers for many variations of the same old stuff. Thankfully, God is no respecter of persons. While others mfay be impressed at the level of deceit and destruction to which they have fallen, God has not.  Once sin has entered, it must be “washed away” to be spiritually “born anew.” God knows the needs of His people much more than we can understand. So, God has provided consciousness about the importance of justice, peace and mercy, and we simply respond in agreement by turning to Him in repentance that opens the door to entrance into His kingdom, as we are baptized into Christ.

Man is not capable of creating justice and peace; if we had been we would’ve already done so. While most people want to see a better world, it is impossible for man on his own to change his sinful disposition. Mankind has corrupted himself and the earth to such extreme measures that vein souls are now suggesting that we finance another “tower of Babel” and go to live on other habitable planets. The latest scam is to allow higher intelligence to reign over the inhabitants on earth, to enslave mankind in the following a one world government that has no regard for God or God’s way.

Uncomfortably (for most), the only way to be “born from the beginning” is to obey God’s commands. There is no universal formula given by man to man that will allow a return to sinless-ness, only God’s law allows that. It is also very helpful to be in fellowship with those who are spiritually “born again.” Of course, we have been spiritually born again, are born “into Christ” and have received the gift of the Holy Spirit, no other way will satisfy. The strings that attach love and peace, demand I follow God’s plan with all allegiance, financial support, and continued fellowship with those of us who were “in Christ” before us, as we become like Christ. The only way that this is done is by repentance and baptism for the remission of sins which gains for us the gift of the Holy Spirit, eventual peace with God!

It was Christ who said: “unless you repent and become like children, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:4  He of course was not referring to the capacity of children to believe, trust and have faith without doubting, but to take His word without argumentation, about learning to walk in Christ. What He taught us we need to know, which is why the word of God is so vitally important. When a person is truly “born again” they are entered into the church of Christ and can  easily be distinguished from the rest of the religions of mankind. Today, there is still the drawing of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of those who have made themselves followers of the pattern of what they read in His word. The only way to peace is to surrender to Him, on His terms, not ours!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 20

How is it that some remain faithful and others do not? The apostle John by inspiration of the Holy Spirit writes: “if that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.”1 John 2:24  Instead of holding the ideas of modern day practices, we who are children of God hold permanently to the doctrines which we’ve learned from the beginning. By obeying, we remain in a living relationship with God. Abiding permanently with the Son allows us to have fellowship with the Father. Because something is new does not make it better!! Seducers newly arisen with ideas of how to win the world by other means than the gospel of Jesus Christ are usually egregious opposers of sacred truth. The great and pernicious lies that the father of lies, are of liars, spreads in the world, contradicted from the first century that Jesus of Nazareth was not the Son of God attested by heaven and earth and hell who was set by the Father to judge the world when He returns. They have Him returning to set up His kingdom, to begin the reign, which finally pacifies the Jews who have been longing for Messiah to come for 4000 years. God promises eternal life to all who remain in the Son. If we do not hold fast to the form of sound doctrine and words, He who claimed to be the resurrection and the life (John 11:25), and given all His children the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and precedents that abides in us, which makes it possible for us to escape dependence on human teachers. The Spirit-led Christians can detect truth and error without aid from any new breed of teacher or any new doctrine. The cry must be: “Stand you in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, that we may walk therein, and find rest for our souls.” Jeremiah 6:16  The priest and the prophet should be our watchmen and monitor but they have dealt falsely, they have not been true to their trust, not told the people their faults and the danger they were in; they should have been physicians, but they murdered their patients by letting them have their will, by giving everything they had in mind and desire without restraint, and flattering them into an opinion that they were in no danger! They boldly reckoned as false friends and flattered them as the most dangerous of enemies so the sinful path went undetected while before God they stood condemned.

How new can something be and come from an old path? How broad-minded can the mind be that has to travel on a narrow path? How often is it recorded that the Lord has changed His mind since closing inspiration around the year AD 80? When Jerusalem of old would not bear to be told of their faults, nor of the danger they were in, God gave them prophets, warning of the judgment that was coming. But the Lord cried: “to whom shall I speak and give warning? Behold, the word of the Lord is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.” Jeremiah 6:11  The Jews had hardened their hearts, he had antipathy to the preaching of the word of God, to them it had become a reproach, and aggravation, a pestilence and the Jew felt himself wronged and affronted by both, and resented the prophets plain dealing with them as they would be the most causeless slander and disrespect. This “kicking against the pricks” (Acts 9:5), as the lawyers against the word of Christ (Luke 11:45), and thus saying, “Thou reproaches us also,” these reproofs that were counted reproaches, and hated as such, will certainly be turned into the heaviest woes. When it is here said, “they have no delight in the word,” more is implied that is expressed. Could they expect that the word of God a comfort to them?

This anointing, implies the presence of the Holy Spirit, which makes it possible for us to escape dependence on human teachers. Of course John did not want to abolish teachers, he was functioning as a teacher himself when he wrote his book! As we abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit teaches the things the Christian needs to know, and His instruction is always true, not a lie. This our protection safeguards us not only against false teaching but ourselves! What a privilege to be “led,” not escorted, by Divinity!! We are not of those who sin and cannot blush for the evil that we have done, for He works within us with power that makes us be as “the mind of Christ.” We resolve to face our iniquity instead of our God, not maintaining a guilty distance from Him who has proved His love for us!!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 19

Samuel’s grief over Saul had gone to the extreme. Samuel had loved Saul with a passion. To witness his military skill and prowess, and see how he and his heroic son Jonathan had raised the nation from  feebleness to an Empire, gave Samuel admiration for Saul. Remember, Samuel had chosen Saul. After Saul sinned, God warned Samuel to mourn no longer. Saul’s rejection was final, and God’s prophet must sacrifice his personal feelings to carry out his purpose in the plan of God. God sent Samuel to Bethlehem. He was looking for His anointed. This anointed one “was a man after God’s own heart who God had demanded be captain over His people.” 1 Samuel 13:14  It was Samuel himself, who had told Saul that “God has given the kingdom to a neighbor of thine, who is better than thou.” 1 Samuel 15:28

Bethlehem was out of Samuel’s normal traveling circuit. To come to Bethlehem, some distance from Romah, could bring Samuel danger. Samuel, therefore, went to Bethlehem, knowing that he was going there to anoint a son of Jesse. It is evident the Samuel had no acquaintance with David; 1 Samuel 15:11-12. Jesse was a man of wealth and importance, his reputation had probably reached the prophets ears. Saul was still actually King, and the anointing of another in his stead would be regarded as an act of open treason, and might cause a Civil War. From before his birth, David had been marked out for his high office. Never did a man climbed to such a high office with purer hands. God told Samuel: “take a heifer with you,” and say, “I am come to sacrifice to Jehovah.” Samuel’s anointing of David was a pre-ordained type for we who become as David. The effort to which God intended to go to anoint him is seen the same for all His “anointed ones.”

The Elders of Bethlehem trembled at Samuels coming. Such visitation from such a high official usually meant some crime had been committed for which Samuel wish to inquire, or because the people had neglected some duty. And though conscious of no such fault, yet at the coming of one of such high rank their minds felt impure. Samuel calms their fears and demands them sanctify  themselves; that is wash and purify yourself, abstain from every unclean thing and put on your festal garments. Eliab, the firstborn, tall in stature and handsome, was the first son of Jesse Samuel was to see. Of Eliab, Samuel felt sure that he had looked upon the Lord’s anointed. Then came the other 6 sons. The Lord showed no pleasure for any of these. The prophet now ordered a recounting of the purpose of his visit and demanded of Jesse, if he had yet another son; stating: “we will not sit down to he comes.” At this time the Jews did sit to eat instead of recline. David is sent for, probably near the house, and on his arrival the prophet sees a run the boy, red-haired, with delicate complexion, and beautiful eyes, come before him. “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren.” David was the eighth son. This was the Lord’s anointed, not the people’s choice as was Saul. Samuel gave this useful boy careful training that David profited thereby. Samuel gave his youthful pupil something better than accomplishments-he carefully educated him and the law of God, and let his mind onward to all that was good. It was Samuel’s last and crowning work.

“The Spirit of God came upon David from that day forward.” The Lord said unto Samuel: “Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; for the Lord sees what man does not see; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 what is seen in David, by all who have studied his life is a noble character, but an unprepared servant is not what God wants. It was  “breathing of God” which moved David forward, and placed in him all that was morally great and good, just as it was the “breath of God” which at creation moved upon the face of the waters that called this earth into perfection. Genesis1:2  From this time forward, David became the central figure in the history of Israel. When introduced to Saul David’s description was as follows: “I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man-of-war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.” 1 Samuel 16:18

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 18

The truth concerning Christ, that was at the first delivered to the saints, is not to be exchanged for anything written by man. When the final treatise concerning Christ was penned, we had received “the faith once delivered to the saints.” Jude verse 3.  This verbiage once delivered, is from a word which means once and for all and forever more! The commandments of the Word, which comes from the beginning, can never be questioned! “My little children, I do not write a new commandment, but an old commandment that you have had from the beginning. The old commandment (mentioned in 1 John 2:7) is the Word which was before time who has now come into time. Many fail to understand this truth. When speaking of the revelation given at Sinai, most people refer to it as the “10 Commandments,” when the actual rendering in the Hebrew is, “10 Words.”  “God is light;” 1 John 1:5; therefore, it can be argued that in creation, when God said, “let there be light,” Genesis 1:1, He infected the world for the first time with Himself by this creative act. The word, WORD does the same feat. Psalms 33:6; John 1:1. “Thy Word/commandment is a lamp to my feet, a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105 “for the commandment is a lamp. The teaching is a light and the way to life by His rebuke through this discipline, brings LIFE. What makes this citation in Proverbs most profound is the word, Word, commandment.  Proverbs 6:23, since we understand the revelation of Sinai is called “10 Commandments,” are not so addressed in the original Hebrew. They are, in fact, called the 10 Words!  Keep this in mind while considering 1 John 2:4 that we discussed last week. “He who says I know Him and does not keep His commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. But whosoever keeps His word (here is our word for commandments), in Him, verily is the love of God perfected; hereby we know that we are in Him.” Again, the word light has a common derivative to word! He states that “God is Light,” in whom we abide (take up residency and remain with great comfort), to whom He has given us the Commandments!  The interchanging of word and commandment happens in Hebrew and Aramaic!! “By this word, we are the children of God, distinguished from the children of Satan.” 1 John 3:10  Sin indulged in, knows no bounds, and the further it proceeds from the truth along its path, is seen to be works of the devil!!

Human nature is the same now as it was of old. There are still Cains, the world, hating it’s Abel, the Church of Christ! Therefore, “Marvel not if the world hate you!!” And what seems to be more interesting, there seems to be no neutral ground! The world either loves, our hates.  This is why we must love our brother. He who is not for his brother is against him. Love is our only security against hate. And everyone who does not love is a potential hater, and John says every hater is a murderer. A murderer who expresses his hatred in this most emphatic way, then, is one who is forced to interpret his hatred for his brother as one who must “kill his brother, as did Cain.

So the Psalmist expresses it this way: “Thou anointest My head with oil.“ Psalms 23:5  How many times have we heard this quoted and yet not studied it?  The general questions we ask when exegeting a passage is overlooked when we read this verse.  Who’s speaking, to whom, what is the subject, and in what dispensation is never considered. What anointing is taking place is not discussed. We seem to fly into an outrage in romantic suggestion and express to ourselves: how wonderful this must be! When we missed the exegesis of this passage which greatly calms our souls. The calmness this description of the peace and calm delight feels is never extolled.  He, which dwelt in the heart of him who is speaking, is overlooked. Like of prayer prayed in the 16th century that has been recited: “Let there be peace on earth dear Lord, and let it begin in me. One of the fruits of the spirit, taught us by the apostle Paul, is peace. This peace can be and is ours, we who have been anointed by the Holy Spirit. We, who live our lives in obedience to His words/commands, who remain fervent in prayer, miss the rest of the Psalm. The knowledge of the Lord prepares our way before us, causes our cup to run over, gives us goodness and mercy all the days of our life because we dwell in the house of the Lord forever, is not often taught!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 17

The Holy Spirit for the child of God is an unction. Unction was anything smeared on, ointment applied in the inaugural ceremony for priests in the Old Testament as a type. For true Christians, who are the anointed ones, our name intimates as much. We are anointed with the oil of grace, grace being defined as God’s gift of information open to us, through His son. From this grace comes gifts, as the spirit of God makes over our hearts. These were and are spiritual endowments, we who have received the message of the Spirit then bear the results of that message called fruit. The delivering of the message or communication of the Holy Spirit is the application or unction, our anointing. The effect of this unction, comparable to spiritual eye-salve; is that it enlightens and strengthens the eyes of understanding and allows us safe passage on the narrow road to eternal peace with God!! John writes: “and thereby you know all things” (all these things concerning Christ and His religion.) John 14:26: “but the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you.”

We who know the truth, are prepared to defend against what is contrary thereto and inconsistent there with. The line which shows itself to be a straight line shows also what is crooked. Truth and falsehood do not well mix and suit each other. And those of us who are well acquainted with the Christian truth are thereby well fortified against anti-Christian error and delusion. We are commanded to “try the spirits”, try their message, see if they stay within the guidelines of the revealed truth. No lie belongs to Christ, either natural are revealed. The apostles most of all condemned lies, and showed the inconsistency lies had with their doctrine: they would have been the most self-condemned persons had they propagated the truth by lies. It is a commendation of Christian religion that it well affords any inspection by any means, for truth is the foundation of it, contained in each facet of its elements or rudiments. All will know the truth, and the truth will set us free.“ John 8:32

It is sad when men tell you that they know God and yet deny His truth. Again, John writes in 1 John 2:1-6: “and hereby we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He that says, I know Him, and keeps not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whosoever keeps His word, in him truly is the love of God perfected: and hereby know we that we are in Him.” “He that says he abides in Him also must walk, even as Christ walked.“ There are direct enemies of God for Christ’s sake, that enemy is called by the apostle John as he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write: an anti-christ. The antichrist denies the witness and testimony of the Father, concerning Jesus Christ, and consequently abandons the knowledge of God in Christ, while all at the same time, professing love for God. These men and women are liars, egregious, opposers of sacred truths: they denied that Jesus is the Christ. These pernicious lies have been spread in the world, were of old, and usually are relating to the person of Christ. God There is no truth so sacred and fully attested but that Jesus of Nazareth was the son of God, attested by heaven, and earth, and hell. Were it not for the clear and concise instruction of the Holy Spirit to the apostles, we would be lost in a maze of confusion and doubt and never know our way to eternal peace with God. That this is true is shown as the apostle advises and persuades the disciples to continue in the old doctrine that was at first communicated to them, 1 John 2:24,  truth is older than error. The truth concerning Christ, that was at first delivered to the saints, is not to be exchanged for the frivolous novelties of man. So sure where the apostles of the truth of that that they had delivered concerning the deity of Christ, that after all their toils and sufferings, they were not willing to relinquish any truth that had been given them by the Holy Spirit. Maintaining this sacred advantage, the instruction of the Holy Spirit that was given by the apostles in the first century, we who participate in adhering to the primitive truth and faith, are never in doubt concerning the truth that has been delivered!! “We know in whom we have believed, and that we are persuaded that He is able to keep that which He has committed unto us, against that day.“

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 16

Sometimes, people use words without really knowing what they mean. When it comes to the Bible, it is good to know the actual meaning of the words that appear in the translation. The meaning of the words Christ, Messiah, and Jesus, have to be followed to their origin. Included in this we’ll always run across the word Christian; but did the early Saints call themselves “Christians”? The words Messiah, and Christ have all the same meaning in their original language forms. Hashiyach (Hebrew) and ho Christos (Greek), and Mashiyach (Aramaic). It is interesting, that man never named Jesus, the Christ! In the famous quotation in Matthew 16:18, Jesus said to Simon Peter;” flesh and blood has not revealed this.” It is not often understood, but when Peter made this confession, he confesses faith in Messiah was to come, not person only. Jesus reply provides Peter the same understanding David and the prophets had regarding God’s salvation, the Rock. Christ said flesh and blood could not reveal the nature of Messiah, only Jehovah God Himself could give us the information by direction of the Holy Spirit!

The old Greek phrase ho christos meant the anointed. The word christos is the same word used in the Septuagint as a Greek adjective and is used in around 40 Old Testament passages, amongst them Daniel 9:25-26. In other words: the Greek phrase ho christos corresponds to the Hebrew phrase mashiyach, notice it is a description, not a word. In John 1:41, John 4:25 the word used is a clarifying comment by John. This is the only two verses of New Testament passages that contain the word Messias. The Hebrew word mashiyach was actually the same as the Greek word christos. The Bible does not contain any mention of an Aramaic are Hebrew form for Jesus name. The name the Scriptures give for Him is Iesous. Palestine had been under Roman influence for centuries. In New Testament times, common languages amongst the Jews was Aramaic and Greek. Some knew Latin; Hebrew was spoken in some few local areas, but Aramaic was the language of the day. When it came to the common language, it was Aramaic. The Hebrew form of Jesus name, was something like Joshua (Yehoshua). In the apostles day, the Holy Spirit used the word Christian (christianos). Christianos was really an adjective with the meaning of the followers of Christ! Acts 11:26 note: this was not a name the church called itself, it was a name that the people in that area called them. There were two other times in the New Testament that the name Christian was used. One was Acts 26:28 and the other 1 Peter 4:16. Peter writes verse 16, “but if he undergoes punishment as a Christian, that is no shame to him; let them give glory to God in this name.” Those in that day considered that being called a Christian was just as bad as being called a criminal (see verse 14). Some wonder, then, what did the saints call themselves? The New Testament writers addressed them as saints, brothers, faithful ones, chosen ones, separated ones, and disciples. There is no mention that they would have used the word Christian of themselves! Later, when the Roman Catholic Church was founded, the word Christian began to be used in a different way. But, that has nothing to do with the true Jesus or the saints and how that word was used in the apostles’ day! Christian was simply a byword that outsiders used of the saints and believers!

Where the saints the anointed ones? If they were, it would not have been correct to say it that way. They would have been called the “followers of the anointed one.”  Its Hebrew equivalent was ha-Mashiyach, hence, the Messiah.  Point: Jesus was the only one called, Messiah, the Anointed, Greek “ho Christos”. That title belongs to Him, alone. The Saints were not anointed ones; they were followers of Jesus who was the anointed One! The translation of 1 John 2:20, King James version of 1769, renders “chrisma” as unction, and in 1 John 2:27, as anointing. This completely changes the meaning of the passage. Both times it was what they were called, not but what they received. Unction, here, is a synonym for anointing. Actually, the word for Messiah is a transliteration of the Hebrew, which meant anointed. The epithet ho Christos was more like a title of ridicule!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 15

All Christians are anointed of God. You cannot say you are a Christian, unless you are anointed. The purpose of the anointing of the Holy Spirit is one and the same. It is the advantage given the member of the Church of Christ in the new covenant that which they, of the old covenant, never entertained. The Holy Spirit in our lives becomes our director, conscience, stabilizer, and developer. As the old song goes: “if it wasn’t for the Lord, tell me brother, what would I do? If it wasn’t for the Lord, and His wonderful love, I know I would make it, I just couldn’t take it, to heaven up above. If I didn’t know, that He loved me so, I’d have to give up, the way is so rough, wherever I go! If he had not begun, at the request of His Son, to send His Holy Spirit, I be so weak and weary, the race I’d never run.”  The Holy Spirit is the seal, identifying us as belonging to God. Ephesians 1:1 the Holy Spirit is the earnest/guarantee that our obedience warrants the resurrection of our bodies. Ephesians 1:13, the Holy Spirit strengthens us-gives us power in the inward, spiritual man. Ephesians 3:16 and finally, the Holy Spirit becomes our communicator with the Father, Romans 8:26-27. If it wasn’t for the Holy Spirit, we would not have a chance. He enables us to “bear all things, believe all things, endure all things, endure hardness till the end,” as Paul wrote. He is the fertilizer that we have as we are planted in a NEW life, spiritual life that allowing us to be strengthened beyond our might. He is the change agent that causes our old hard-heart, hard like a tree, to soften the shell and loosen up the husk so we can bask in His Son’s love through ceaseless ages. God has given us His Spirit. Like the chlorophyll that produces new life, the Holy Spirit adds, increases our ability, and shines the light along the path that will lead home. And if that were not enough, He puts within us the same “mind that was in Christ Jesus, which brings eternal glory.”

False teachers, in the day of the apostle John were called Anti-Christ. It was one thing you probably could’ve rest assured, they did not see themselves as against the Lord! Some were even miraculous deceivers, yet because this seed remained in those who had heard and obeyed the word of God, we did not fall. The seed of the kingdom is the word of God, Luke 8:4, and as the word of God, in their hearts and minds, as it is ours today, they/we would not listen, but try the spirits to see if it was of God! Each child of God becomes what would be called a “fruit inspector, a judge, a trier of the thoughts and the teachings that they heard.” With the Holy Spirit residing within them as it does us, no man could cause them to the “depart from the living God.” Listening, testing, trying against the written word of God, our delivery from the hands of the evil one is not miraculous, it is providential! If the seed, the word of God, is planted deep in the recesses of minds, we can live the Christian life, and remain faithful on the path of righteousness, and finally “enter into the gates into the city!!” As like has affinity with like, so God would dwell where men were like Him. With His abode in our hearts, we will be like, live like, pray like, and speak like Him who directs our lives!! The blessed presence of God with His people is proclaimed and admired: “I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” Revelation 21:4 The presence of God with His church is the glory of the church, it is a matter of wonder that a holy God should ever dwell with any of the children of men. His immediate presence with them, His love manifested to them, and His glory put upon them, will be their/our perfect happiness!! Then and only then will the character of those with whom He has fellowship, on His part, be glory on their part. This new and blessed state will allow us to be free from sorrow, all the effects of sin are done away. In effect, there will be no tears, by reason of sin, of affliction, the calamities of the former life, the tears of the church have been wiped away. We have no more remembrance of former sorrows! So, tell me not that I cannot live the Christian life, I am victorious over sin, and tell me not that I have not been benefited by my Creator and Maker by His Spirit that dwells within me!! For I am one of His anointed, I have been changed, I am new born, now, all of my life has been re-arranged.  What a difference it makes when the Lord comes to stay, in our hearts, oh, yes, we’ve been changed!!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 14

Jesus Christ was anointed by God the Father at His baptism. In Matthew 3:16 – 17 the Bible says: “and Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him. And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, this is My beloved Son.” This same thing as mentioned in Luke 3:21-22.  “ it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Ghost descended in bodily shape like a dove upon Him..” And finally, Acts 10:38: “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him.”  Jesus was anointed by the Father, so the dove, anti-type, last bird sent from the Ark, Christ is THE last messenger of, to, the world, from God!! Hebrews 1:1 states:” God, who at sundry times and in divers matters spake in times past of the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son…” A dove has always been a symbol of peace, so God came and made peace by His Son, on the cross of Calvary!!  Colossians 2:14 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross.” Ephesians 2:14 states: For He is our peace, who has made one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us.“ The middle wall separated Israel from the Gentiles, and Christ was/is the price God paid to accomplish this great task!! As Ezekiel wrote, in Ezekiel 37:22. The word Christ, means the anointed one-the one set apart-they who are separate and was the given name to the Christ who came from heaven and we who follow Him!

All prophets, priests, and kings were anointed, as a type, to show the pattern that would be in the New Testament.  2 Corinthians 1:21-22 tells us: “now He which establish us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; who has also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.” The anointing and sealing is given as proof, proof of our salvation. In Romans 8:9 and 16 tells us by the Spirit, the messenger of the new covenant, sent us a message that tells us, “we are children of God!!” The Holy Spirit is given us as our new Director of Operations. He replaces instinct (the sub-conscious guide given us at birth). In the mind of man (where He reigns supreme to lead and control thoughts, passions, and communication) He brings our minds under His control, He leads and directs us. He answers our questions, intercedes in our behalf in a language we cannot even use as communication, changes us to be in a fashion like our Lord, and is the guarantee that on the day of the resurrection our bodies, at the sound of the last Trump, WILL RISE, for He has dwelt in us!! Romans 8:9;11;13;14;26;27.

As our seal-He identifies us as belonging to (the same thing as a covenant, agreement, contract)   God. Ephesians 1:13, as the earnest, He guarantees our inheritance. Ephesians 1:3 as our guide, He uses His power as God, to show us HOW to win the war, not just a daily struggle, in which we are engaged. Ephesians 3:16.  In fact, the apostle John writes: “the anointing which we received of Him, we need not that any man teach us: but as the same anointing teaches us of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, even as it teaches us, we abide in Him.!!” 1 John 2:27  From Him comes what is called fruit! This fruit is the result of what has been planted, fertilized by the word. This fruit changes the old hard hearted heart of man and leaves us with a new hear. It is called the new man! This new life has a new road as travelers we walk on the road to eternity! So as we travel, read, and study from the book of life because we bear this fruit, this fruit adds to our faith, gives us greater strength, allows us to be what God intended us to be! For the Holy Spirit sheds-spreads the light of the word of God by giving all light, necessary, so the traveler (Christian) can see. It sets us apart as God’s holy priest-so we can offer up spiritual sacrifices through-by-because of our relationship in Christ, the Father!! Thank God for the Holy Spirit!!

Christianity: The Anointed Ones | Part 13

As a young preacher, the only thing I ever heard about “anointing” came from denominationalism They of the Pentecostal persuasion, they we called “holy rollers.” But as I began to study the Scriptures I found that the idea of anointing is throughout the entire Bible. The active anointing of fragrant olive oil over the head of the anointed one is taught explicitly in the Old Testament. In the book of Exodus 29:7 the direction by God to Moses “to anoint Aaron and his sons” cannot be overlooked. “Then shalt thou take the anointing oil:, and poured upon his head, and anoint him.” This was done publicly so all might see. There is no question then that priest were part of they who are anointed! In Psalms 133:1-2; David is quoted as saying this anointing is “like precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments, as the dew of Herman, as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion.” When these were anointed with oil there was also the laying on of hands. The laying on of hands was a public showing of the passing on of the mantle of leadership authority. The laying on of hands at the beginning had nothing to do with healing or miracles, but to receive the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The anointing oil of the sanctuary was composed of many precious ingredients while olive oil was its basis. Not only Aaron, but all later high priest were anointed with it. Exodus 30:30. The anointing of the high priest was a sign and symbol of unity. He bore on his breastplate the names of the 12 tribes. The message came from one source, not like to confusion of several people trying to speak at once in language nobody understands!! The dew of Mount Herman, is what the Jew would understand as the moisture which fertilizes the holy land, and made it the fertile land. Mount Herman was to Canaan what Aaron was ceremonially to Israel. The Jordan, issued from the roots of Herman diffused throughout Zion. The message of the gospel comes from one source, the apostles of Christ, if every doctrine cannot be traced to their teaching and instruction it has to be avoided. “God, is not the author of confusion.” 1 Corinthians 14:33

One of the three functions attributed to the Holy Spirit in reference to the Christian is that the Holy Spirit seals, gives us the earnest (down payment on our bodies), and anoints. We become the SET APART! The purpose is to make us holy– changing from unusable clay to vessels “meet for the master’s use”– as the Holy Spirit functioned when he brooded over the face of the waters in the creation making the world a place habitable for mankind. We who have received the Holy Spirit, are given a way to make our lives “holy” so God the Father and God the Son can have a habitation, there. The apostle Paul writes,” for through Christ we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father….. And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself, being the chief corner stone…..In whom ye also our built together a habitation of God through (by) the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:18-22

Other specific servants anointed in the Mosaic system were Kings.  1 Samuel 9:16; “tomorrow, about this time, I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people, Israel…” The third classification of persons were they who were called prophets. In 1 Kings 19:16, “and Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah: shall thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.” Again, this was not a private ceremony this, again, is a public ceremony. This was not done privately and then declared by “personal testimony”exspecting others to believe their lie as the denominationalist do, today!!
