Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 14

The Russellites make a big argument about whether or not there is a definite article before some references to Christ. They make this in vain in reference to John 1:1 which states; “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God.” (*They want it to read; “and the Word was THE God”). The subject of the sentence is “Word” (Logos); the verb is “was”. There is no direct object in this verse; it is a predicate nominative that refers back to the subject, God. “God” (Theos) is the predicate nominative of “Word” and needs no article. In the Greek a noun may be definite for many reasons and it matters not if the definite article is present!! According to Colwel’s Rule (of the Greek language) a definite predicate nominative has the article when it follows the verb; it does not have the article when it precedes the verb. Context makes no demand on the definite article being in the writing either, for instance when Thomas confessed Christ in John 20:28 no definite article is found!! As already noted, what is stated in the opening of John’s gospel reaches its climax in the 20th chapter when Thomas confesses Christ before all the living disciples as “my Lord and my God”!! In John 1:6,12,13,18 there is the noun Theos, God, found. In no place is the definite article found!! In keeping with Russellite doctrine, the definite article MUST appear or the person or persons to which it is referring is not Deity. The New World Translation translates all these verses “God” not “a God”: wonder which little witness made this blunder?? In Matthew 16:16 and Acts 26:23 “the” is mentioned before Christ in the Greek New Testament; yet, in Romans 5:6 there is NO article in the original, YET, THE ATHEIST RUSSELLITES DO NOT TRANSLATE THIS “A CHRIST”!! It must be said that the Witnesses put in and take out the article as it pleases them and their damnable doctrine. When they want to make a doctrinal point to uphold, then it becomes crucial. Some cocky Russellites try to make “God” and “Logos” interchangeable terms (one is the same as the other), this is not true, “Logos” is the NAME of one being who has the nature called “God”, is this not like our individual social security number?
When Jesus made the statement “I and the Father are one.” John 10:30, He was not just saying He and the Father were one in purpose and attitude, Jesus was stating what the Jews took up stones to deny; that like the Father, Jesus is God!! In John 5:17-18 Jesus had had a previous confrontation about this truth. He had not changed His mind in John 10:30. In John 5:17 Jesus stated: “My Father worketh even until now, and I work.” That is, Jesus had as much right to work on the Sabbath as the Father. This put Him on equality with the Father. By the way, when Jesus called God, Father, He did is not the usual pronoun used. This pronoun is idios and is defined as equal in quality or in quantity, to claim for one’s self the nature, rank, authority, which belongs to the other, and the person making the claim is said to belong to one, above all others. The fact of God, the Father, being His father was unique, one of a kind!! The Russellites say that Jesus was claiming equality with the Judges and Prophets of Israel calling them gods, only. If this were true then Christ would be in error making them sin for no man can worship another, and if these men were gods, they were then to be worshipped!! I bet this frost old Charles Taze every time this verse is mentioned in Hell!!
Thomas was not present at the first encounter with the risen Christ and he doubted it to be true. He stated unless he SAW the risen Lord, he would not believe. It would have been good for the Russellites if this verse had not appeared in John’s writings, for it proves more that they are atheist than any other. We will start here next.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 13

“Before Abraham was, I AM”. John 8:58 Again, Jesus tells us of His identity and eternality. The word was is in a tense of the Greek verb which means there was a specific act performed. The Greek word genesthai, was born, shows that Abraham was not timeless while the tense which Jesus tells us of Himself is the tense that is continuous, never beginning nor ever ending, called the present tense. The Being, the One who was, the One who is, the existing One is the proper translation of I AM. This is the claim of timeless existence!! This is the Jesus who met Moses on the mountain where the busy burnt but was not consumed. Exodus 3:14
Because Jesus made the preceding statement of John 8:58, the Jews took up stones to stone Him. The Law of Moses prescribed stoning for familiar spirits, Leviticus 20:27, blasphemy, Leviticus 24:10-16, being a false prophet, Deuteronomy 13:5-10, and to the surprise of most people a rebellious son, Deuteronomy 21:18-21, and adultery (rape) Deuteronomy 22:21 and Leviticus 20:10. For which of these wrongs were the Jews attempting to stone our Lord? They thought they had caught Him in blasphemy for which they attempted to do the same thing in John 10:30-33. By the way, on other occasions both John and Jesus called the Jews names that did not satisfy them, Matthew 12:34, 23:33, 3:7. On neither of these occasions did they attempt to stone Christ nor John the Baptizer.
Isaiah 8:13-14 and the more famous verse in Isaiah 9:6-7 tell of the Deity of Christ. In Isaiah 8 the word translated Lord is actually Jehovah. This verse is quoted by Peter in 1 Peter 2:8 where he writes: “And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto they were appointed.” Without question Isaiah 9:6 refers to Christ and verse 7 tells us He will set on the throne of David to order and establish it!!
One un-informed Russellite once asked; “if Jesus were God, where was His glory while He was here on Earth?” John 17:5 Christ cries out; “Father glorify Thou Me with Thine Own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.” They never get it!! If they would just read the Bible a little and not the Watch Tower Tract and Lying Society, they would know that while Christ was on Earth He “took the form of a servant, and being found in fashion as a servant was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross”. Philippians 2:7-8 Isaiah 42:8 says: “I Am the Lord: that is My name: and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.” Also, in Isaiah 48:11 Isaiah writes: “For Mine own sake, even for Mine own sake, will I do it: for how should My name be polluted? And I will not give My glory unto another.”
“Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel, and His redeemer, the Lord of Hosts; I AM the first, and I AM the last; and beside Me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6 Again, “Hearken unto Me, O Jacob and Israel, My called; I AM He; I AM the first, I also Am the last.” Isaiah 48:12 Again, “I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end…”Revelations 1:17-18 Again, “These things saith the first and the last, who was dead, and lived again.” Revelations 2:8 Even with a bias, it is hard to understand how they could mistake this as the Christ of God!!
“Write not, the King of the Jews; but that He said I Am King of the Jews.” John 19:21 One would think Charles Taze Russell, Judge Rutherford, or Nathan Knor might have written this verse, but this also came from the Christ-killers in the first century!!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 12

According to the Concordances of the Old Testament, the name Jehovah occurs well over 5,000 times, none in the New Testament. Jehovah is the most precious name among the Jews for God. The term Elohim, which we know to mean, the Almighty, declares an attribute of that Deity. There are multiple times when more than one Jehovah occurs in a verse of scripture. This should show any thinking person that the name is not singularly speaking of just ONE who possesses the nature called God! Genesis 19:24, “Jehovah rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of Heaven.” Zechariah 2:8-9, “For thus saith Jehovah….and ye shall know that Jehovah hath sent me.” Zechariah 10:12, “And I will strengthen them in Jehovah, and they shall walk up and down in His name saith Jehovah.” In these passages the term Lord is the term translated from the original word Jehovah.
The name Jehovah defines a peculiarity about whoever is called by this name, it declares them ETERNAL GOD. When the two terms are used together in the scriptures in many places, as JEHOVAH ELOHIM, it declares indisputably that the two are the same, LORD GOD. Indeed there are many names given to Deity throughout the Bible, one author cataloging 280 titles and symbols of Christ, alone. The Russellites claim the word Jehovah occurs in the New Testament. This is completely false! The name “Jehovah” does not occur anywhere in the Greek Scriptures, it is not a Greek word. Many have looked for the word “baptism” in the Old Testament to the same end; baptism is not a Hebrew or Aramaic word and having never been transliterated, it would never occur in that language!! There are multiple places when “Jehovah” is combined with other words to define an action of God. An example would be Jehovah-Tisidkenu, it means the Lord our righteousness, or Jehovah-Sabaoth, this means “the Lord of Hosts”. Yes, it is true that in the New Testament the name Jehovah is not given in reference to Christ, only because the New Testament is written in the Greek language. It is easy to find that since Jesus, as the Logos, the Word, was a member of the Godhead, that the term Jehovah applies to Him, just as He was included in the term Elohim in Genesis 1, and is in the pluralities of Jehovahs in other passages. The easiest way to show this truth is to quote the Old Testament reference and the New Testament fulfillment. .
Exodus 3:14, “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM; and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” The term I AM is the Hebrew EHYEH, and is a present tense form of JAH, Jehovah. It is found in three places in the above passage, in Hebrew, where it is translated as I AM. The origin of the word is from the verb TO BE. It denotes timelessness in existence of the one who was, who is, and who is to come: the first and the last, the Alpha and Omega. John starts his epistle with this declaration and closes Revelation with its demand. It declares Christ (or any other member of Deity that is defines) as self-existent, that He lives by His own power without aid, help, comfort, or need from any other being! It declares Him Eternal. He lived in infinite ages before anything came into being!! It declares Him unchangeable. He always will be what He always was. He does not grow wiser every year; He is complete knowledge and wisdom, as well as substance!! It declares Him incomprehensible. What no man, angel, shall ever be able by searching to find out. What He is can neither be described nor imagined. Our strongest words fall infinitely short. And He is all-sufficient. He did not tell Moses what He is, He simply stated whatever it takes to make man happy, I AM!!! He was not boasting!!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 11

Is Jesus the Son of God? Did He become such? The Russellites claim Jesus is the Son of God through creation by God before the world existed, by Mary in human birth, and by the resurrection from the grave in the Spirit.
In eastern usage the terms “son of” and “father” primarily denoted sameness. Look at the verses where it is used and you will see for yourself. Genesis 4:20 states “Jabal was father of such as dwell in tents and have cattle.” Again, “Jabal was father of such as handle the harp and pipe”, verse 21 Abraham was father of many nations, Genesis 17:4 Now, for the “son of” usage. Mark 3:17 tells us James and John were the “sons of thunder” (they had a bad temper). Jesus calls peaceful men “sons of peace”. In John 17:12, Christ calls Judas the “son of perdition”. Barnabas is called the “son of consolation”, Acts 4:36, meaning he was a very helpful and consoling man. In John 10:30-36 there is no question that the Jews recognized that Jesus calling God His Father meant He was claiming to be God!
As discussed, when Jesus is called the Firstborn and Only Begotten, what is being taught is His position, not derivation. So to, when He is being called the Son of God it denotes the uniqueness of His position with respect to the Father! In all reality, the term Son of God is used as a title-equal to the title of Messiah which name is used as an equal title to both Christ and King of Israel. If you will read again the statements made by various people at the crucifixion of Jesus, you will see that they were very aware of the equality of these terms. Read Matthew 27:40, 43, Mark 15:32,Luke 23:35,37, 39.
Hebrews 1:5 cites a statement which must be understood as a dual prophecy. “I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son.” This dual prophecy is given of both Solomon and Christ. It is the picture of relationship of father to son, of the subordination of the son to the father. In reference to Christ, it speaks of His coming into the world and the role He would play of submission to the Father. In reference to Hebrews 1:5, the Book says more than meets the eye. The sense of servitude DID NOT pre-exist Christ coming into the world by Mary. In like fashion Philippians 2:8 teaches the same time constraints. Watch: “and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death, even the death of the cross.” Being found, humbled, becoming, are all in the Aorist tense which denotes a time in which this all began. There was a time when Jesus began His servitude; the time was WHEN He came into the world!! Verse 6 of this chapter tells He “existed in the form of God”. “Existing” denotes a continuous action; it is in the present tense. If He became a servant when He came into the world, that’s when it began, then He wasn’t a servant of God BEFORE He came into the world!! Again, in Hebrews 5:8, “though He were a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” shows there was a time WHEN He was NOT a man, to learn as a man to obey. The learning took place AFTER He was born of Mary!! In the Old Testament, we find plurality of persons in one God, and different functions of the three, BUT NOT IN SUBJECTION. We see where Jehovah sends Jehovah to Sodom and Gomorrah, but one is NOT in subjection to the other, this is done by mutual agreement!! Genesis 1:26 teaches us “And God said, Let Us make man…” Here, and in other passages, the term for God is plural, with plural pronouns. It shows mutual agreement in the Godhead!! Jesus WAS NOT created, born, did not begin to be, nor was He caused to become. He is the ancient one “who inhabited eternity”, Himself the “creator of all things”, and the “originator”.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 10

Jesus pre-eminence is seen in that He created ALL things!! That is hard for some to understand because they think God the Father had to do every thing that was done! Having existed before all things were made, Christ is shown in the scriptures to be before all things, above all things, and the creator of all things. His assigned work also includes the sustaining of all things and holding all powers and dominions, even death. Paul writes; “who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all thing were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist: And He is the head of the body the Church: who is the beginning, the first born from the dead; that in all thing He might have pre-eminence.” Colossians 1:15-18
It would be very interesting to look at the word firstborn as used in Colossians 1:15. Its Greek equivalent is the word proto tikto, it means the first (protos) and to beget (tikto). It may refer to the first born in time or the first born in position. When used in the Old Testament it described Esau, Genesis 27:19; the firstborn in the land of Egypt, Exodus 11:5; or Jesus, Mary’s firstborn son, Luke 2:7; as the firstborn in time. When used the others places it is mentioned it is the firstborn in position; Job 18:13, Isaiah 14:30, Exodus 4:22, Jeremiah 31:9, Psalms 89:27, Hebrews 12:23, Romans 8:29, and Revelation 1:5 Christ was NOT the first one to be raised from the dead, He was the first one raised from the dead to die no more; His resurrection from the dead proved His pre-eminence. This is emphasis on POSITION, not origin. Christ was “declared to be the Son of God by the resurrection from the dead.” Romans 1:4 And, “For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.” Romans 14:9
He is said to be the “only begotten”. The Russellites argue that since Jesus is referred to as the Begotten Son of God, or the Only Begotten Son of God, that it means He was not Deity, but created in some age past. The Hebrew word for ‘only begotten’ is yalad, the Greek word is gennao. The words are nearly identical in meaning. When an Old Testament passage is referred to where yalad is found, in the New Testament, gennao is used. Psalms 2:7-Hebrews 1:5 is a good example. In the sense of creating, forming, or making, so that the result is a relationship like a father and son it is used in Jeremiah 2:27, 1 Corinthians 4:15, and Philemon vs 10. Jesus human body came from a woman just as other human being come. Matthew 1:20 records the angel telling Joseph, “that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” What made His begettal so unique was that it was of the Holy Spirit, not man. That relates ONLY to His physical body. When speaking of His POSITION among men, Christ is the ONLY begotten. The Greek word is monogenes. This word is used to describe Isaac. Isaac was NOT Abraham’s first to be born, Ishmael claimed that position. Galatians 4:22 What was unique about Isaac is also what is unique abut Jesus: both were of promise, of the proper seed, and from the qualified mother (qualified because it was to this woman the promise had been made!)
Psalms 2 relates a prophecy of Christ often ignored. Verses 1-3 indicate the nations raging against Jehovah and His anointed, trying to prevent His plan. Verses 4-6 show how God the Father felt about their attempt. He laughs at their attempts to thwart Him, and overcomes them to accomplish His purposes. Verses 7-9 state that the dominion of the Son is absolute-He has ALL POWER. This is certainly claimed for Him in the New Testament in many places: Matthew 28:18, Ephesians 1:20-23, and Colossians 1:16-18.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 9

The most common word in the New Testament for worship, found some 60 times, means to pay homage, reverence to something. The only lawful receiver of worship is God! Matthew 4:10 Jesus received and accepted worship of Himself without hesitation. The wise men fell down and worshipped Him, Matthew 2:1; a leper worshipped Him, Matthew 8:2; a ruler, Darius, worshipped Him, Matthew 9:18; Peter and those in the boat worshipped Him, Matthew 14:33; and many other verses could be cited. The most famous verse on this subject was that of Thomas in John 20:28. No man, angel, or spirit of any other order was to receive worship, in fact Paul writes in Hebrews 1:6; “And again, when He bringeth in the first-begotten into the world, He saith, ‘And let all the angels of God worship Him.’
During the 40 days temptation, Satan tried to get Jesus to “fall down and worship him”. To this Christ responded; “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve,” More than any other book in the New Testament, the Epistle to the Hebrews proves beyond question the true Deity of Jesus Christ and teaches that not only is He our ascended High Priest and Intercessor before the Father, but that He is the living Word of God (Hebrews 4:12) who judges the thoughts and intents of our hearts and who remains the same “yesterday, today and forever.” Russellites strive constantly to reduce the Lord Jesus Christ in rank from the second person of the Triune Deity to a created being. Let us keep in mind the writer of Hebrews admonition to the Church, namely, that our Savior far from being a creature (regardless of the exalted rank one may assign to Him) is in truth and in deed the eternal Word of God, the radiance or effulgence of His Father’s glory, the very image imprinted or impressed by the Nature of the Father—God manifest in the flesh, the fullness of the Godhead, bodily!! Hebrews 1:1-3; 1 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 2:9.
The term Godhead is often mis-understood. We speak of manhood, womanhood, childhood; yet we struggle with Godhead. In actuality Godhead and Godhood would be the same It could be used as a synonym for God, but goes further- it implies the state, dignity, condition, and quality of being God. What ever it means to be God, whatever it takes to exist as God, and whatever constitutes God as a nature is found in the term Godhead!! This term is found three times in the New Testament: Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, and Colossians 2:9. Each of these places is translated from a different word, though all three words are somewhat related. In Acts 17:29 the word means “that which is divine, deity”. Comparing the passages we shall see why the Holy Spirit used each word. In Romans 1:29 Paul is declaring how much of God may be known from the revelation of Himself which He has made in nature, from those vestiges of Himself which that in the Son there dwells all the fullness of absolute Godhead; they were no more rays of divine glory which gilded Him, lighting up His person for a season and with a splendor not His own; but He was, is, absolute and perfect God; and the “Apostle used the word “divine” to express the essential and personal Godhead of the Son”. Trench, Synonyms of the New Testament, pages 7-8 “Deity differs from divinity as essence differs from quality or attributes.” Thayer, p. 288 (Thayer, by the way, was a Unitarian—they deny the Deity of Christ—it is good as he is a scholar, he is honest about definitions of words!!) In fact when Thayer addresses the word in Colossians 2:9, he describes it as “the state of being God”!! In their translation the Russelites call Christ God!! Titus 2:13

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 8

The Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Christ is not the eternal, non-created, being called God that never began and will never end. In their booklet the Kingdom Is at Hand, pp. 46-48, we find this statement. “At the time of His beginning of life He was created by the everlasting God, Jehovah, without the aid or instrumentality of any mother. In other words, He was the first and direct creation of Jehovah God….He was the start of God’s creative work. He was not an incarnation in flesh but was flesh, a human Son of God, a perfect man, no longer a spirit, although having a spiritual or heavenly post and background.” There are endless quotes from these infidels as this. It goes against my nature to have to put this in this bulletin; I just want you to know with what you are dealing, they are NOT friends of Jesus Christ!!
Hebrews 1:3, Paul writes by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit: “who being the brightness (effulgence) of His glory, and the very image of His substance, and upholding all things by the word of His power..” The word being is the same word used in John 8:58. It is the present active participle of eimi, referring to the continuing existence of Christ, NEVER HAVING BEGUN, and NEVER ENDING.
“Brightness”, (effulgence) of His glory…” Brightness, radiance is used of light shining from a luminous body. It represents in the truest sense the apaugasma. Apaugasma is Latin and expresses Christ nature and His acts shining forth the glory, manifesting in Himself ALL that God is and does, ALL for instance, that is involved in His being ‘the very image of His substance,’ and in His creative acts, His sustaining power, and His making purification of sins, with all that pertains thereto!! W. E. Vine, Vol. 2, p. 19.
“Image”, Hebrew (charakter), is defined as mark stamped upon that instrument, burned or stamped in, an impression; the exact, marked likeness, precise reproduction in every respect. Thayer, p 665 It is the impression produced by a seal or by a diestamp in wax or in metal, an exact replica! William Barclay, Jesus as They Saw Him, p. 319
Substance, defined is the very image of God’s ‘substance’. Here the word has the meaning of the real nature of that to which reference is made in contrast to the outward manifestation; it speaks of the Divine essence of God existent and expressed in the revelation of His son.” Vine, Vol. 4, p. 88 Arndt & Gingrich, p. 854, Thayer, p. 644.
Revelation, then, definitely and directly calls Jesus, GOD, and unhesitatingly takes Old Testament descriptions which belong to God and applies them to Christ. Revelation 1:13-16 describes Jesus exactly as Ezekiel 43:2 and Daniel 10:5-7 Jesus is one of three in 1 John 5:7 (considered spurious by some modern scholars(?)), Hebrews 1:8, Acts 2:34, and Galatians 1:1. “Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead;” Jesus is clearly distinguished from men, or a man, as the source of authority for Paul. If Jesus were just a man, Paul could not make this distinction. Also, Paul writes: “neither by men, but by God the Father”. Jesus is ranked along-side the Father as the source-making them equal!!
Isaiah testifies in the true Messianic tradition, that ‘the child’ to be born was to be divine: Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God (El Gebor), the Everlasting Father (literally ‘the Father of eternity’, Hebrew), the Prince of Peace.” And this child, Matthew informs us, was/is Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Matthew 1:22-23!! Read again Leviticus 24:16: ”And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 7

If you run into a Jehovah’s Witness, Russellite, that thinks themselves familiar with the Greek language, in John 12:1,he will try and make a case for the definite article, ho (the), before the noun as a rule of grammar which would indicate that there is an indefinite article before the term “God” in the Greek and since it is indefinite it must take the indefinite article. So, the New World Translation reads: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was a god.” In his book: A Definite Rule for the use of the Article in the Greek New Testament, in the Journal of Biblical Literature, L11 (1933, 13:21, Colwell’s Rule states the definite article DOES NOT have to precede the noun). They translated John 1:1 the way they did because it fits their error!! Logos is the term applied to Christ in John 1:1-14, Revelations 19:13, and 1 John 1:1. There is also a possible personification of ‘Word of God’ in Hebrews 4:12. Paul taught the pre-existent Christ in 2 Corinthians 8:9, Philippians 2:6, and Colossians 1:17 to describe the pre-existent Logos. When Thomas confessed the Lord in John 20:28, “My Lord and My God” no definite article is found. They also translate in other places of their translation where the definite article is not found “God” as the proper, definite, name of Christ being. “Write not, The King of the Jews; but that He said I am King of the Jews.” John 19:21 This passage is an exact duplicate to John 1:1. In the first statement made, “The King of the Jews, (ho basileus ton ioudaion) the article precedes “King”. In the second, “I am king of the Jews” (basileus eimi ton ioudaion) the article does not appear before “king”). Basileus is the predicate noun preceding a copulative verb EMIMI (to be, have been, has no beginning) which is exactly what brother John wrote!! Matthew 16:16, Acts 26:23 has no definite article in the original, yet they do not translate it a god!!
In John 5:18, 10:30-38, John 8:24, and John 8:58; the Jews had no trouble understanding Christ DEFINITELY meant them to know He IS GOD. In fact in the first two instances the Jews took up stones to kill Him!! In John 20:28 Jesus accepted the statement of Thomas instead of rebuking him. Also, Thomas was convinced Jesus was the Christ BECAUSE of what he SAW, that it was truly the Lord, not what Jesus said!! (The Russellites tell us Jesus was resurrected in another form suited for the occasion!!)
“…Who existing in the form of God, counted not the being an equality with God a thing to be grasped.” Philippians 2:6 Jesus existed from before the beginning in the form of God, He did not think it anything special, prized, or to be clutched to Himself!! Thayer translates this passage: who, although (formerly when He was God, eternal, did not think that this equality with God was to be eagerly clung to or retained, but emptied Himself of it so as to assume the form of a servant, in that He became like unto men. page 418 “Form”, Greek word morphe, denotes the special characteristic form of a person or thing; it is used with particular significance in the N.T., only of Christ!! In Mark 16:12 Jesus was “manifested in another form unto two of them…” Jesus appeared unto them in the form of God, not man-He never appeared in the form of an angel! “Equal” in the R.V. is translated ‘on an equality with God, instead of ‘equal with God’. “Grasped”, harpagmos, a thing seized, to deem a prize, to be held on to rather than something to be won. Jesus DID NOT try to seize equality with God by robbery; He was God, the nature of His BEING!! “Being”, the present active participle of EIMI of John 1:1, 8:58, Hebrews 1:3 It refers to the continuing existence of Christ, having never begun, always having been. In Hebrews 1:3, Paul goes on to write Christ was the actual substance, reality, nature, essence of God, “the express image of His person”.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 6

“I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins; for except ye believe that I Am he, ye shall die in your sins.” John 8:24 In this passage the he has been added by the translators, as indicated by the italics. Actually, Jesus is claiming deity for Himself. He claims to be the I AM, which corresponds to the many passages in both Old and New Testaments that speak of God as I AM. It is a term used of Jehovah. This passage demands our belief in the deity of Jesus and that such belief is necessary to our salvation. IT IS A FACT!! To deny this is now new, the denial of Christ’s deity began with the Gnostics of the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The Apostle Paul refuted them in his letters to the Galatians and Colossians. Their particular idea was, however, that Jesus was only a man, though a superior man. The ideas advocated by the Russellites did not appear until the 3rd and 4th centuries. Origin, in the early 3rd century, advocated the creation of the Word by the Father in time, but still referred to the Word (Christ) as being God. In the early 4th century Arius was the apostle of this damnable doctrine.
Arian was a Bishop of Alexandria in A.D. 319. He said that Jesus was a created being, having a beginning, and hence was not of the same substance as Jehovah, but was used of Jehovah to accomplish His purposes among men. He taught that there was only ONE person in the Godhead, so there was NO Trinity. There was the Father, His inferior Son, and His power the Holy Spirit. Such a position had not been advocated before; it was not held be the disciples in the days of the Apostles, nor by the Christians in the earlier centuries!! Clement of Rome, who was a companion of the Apostles, and all the writers of the first two centuries demanded acceptance of Jesus as being God.
Watchtower literature spends a great deal of time poking fun at the idea of three persons who have the nature called God. They reduce it to a matter of mathematics, such as 1+1+1=1 Such non-sense is based on shear ignorance, willful perversion, and the meaning of the term God, Godhead, and Deity!! God is the name given to a certain NATURE which describes a power, might, ability that is un-definable by words or comprehension, not a certain being!! God is defined as “I who alone create”. No other being can make such a claim!! They cite Deuteronomy 6:4; “The Lord our God is one Lord”, Isaiah 44:6; “I am the first and I am the last; and besides Me there is no God.”, and James 2:19; “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well.” These passages declare a FACT: that fact is the unity of those who possess this nature. The Pentecostals have taken this to mean that there is only one person in the Godhead. They teach the Father was also the Son, and was also the Holy Spirit. The unity of God is found common ground and equality demanded of the three. All divine attributes are equally ascribed to all three persons!! They are all three to be worshipped!! What confuses many is the “role” each played in redeeming mankind. When the Father is pictured as first, the Son second, and the Spirit third, this refers to their position, role, part each played in redeeming mankind. An example is seen in the creation. God the Father had the idea, God the Son brought that plan into reality, and God, the Spirit made creation habitable for mankind, yet all three are creators! In the home we have the same “role playing”. We have the father, who is the head, the mother who is subject to the head, and the children who are subject to both father and mother. A home MUST be united!! No one is going to assert that all are not equal as human beings; certainly the wife is just as much a human being as her husband, and so the children- yet, there has to be an ORDER or the home cannot, will not function as designed!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 5

Joseph Franklin Rutherford took over the organization after the death of Charles Taze Russell in 1916. With marvelous acumen, an insatiable drive for accomplishment, and tremendous vitality Judge Rutherford took the fledgling Bible Study groups of Russell and turned them into a multi-million dollar cult of zealous people who spend most the their time negating the doctrine of Christ openly attacking the sacred truths of Christ Covenant. Their reckless abandonment of truth makes their books sell very well. It is truthful to state that the Witnesses “abhor” or hate their fellow men whose cause they have in a sense served by test cases on civil liberties for they have worn out the courts contesting every restriction placed on them.
From it’s beginning, the Watch Tower has never ceased to pour from its presses direct attacks upon every type religious group, both Protestant and Catholic. The October 1, 1952 issue of the Watch Tower, pages 596 to 604 counsels the Witnesses to display “pure” hatred for the enemies of the Theocracy. This means every religious group. Before the Judge passed on the baton he purchased an estate for Abraham, Isaac, David, and the boys to live in when they came back to the earth to commence the millennial reign!!. This manse, called Beth Sharim, was located outside of San Diego, California. It was a lavish palace The Judge joined Russell January 8, 1942 in Hell and has not since been heard from. The surprise to all of this is the Judge did not expect Hell to be but a few minutes and so far, for him, it has lasted some 70 years or better!!
The next “leader” of the “little flock, faithful and true” was a man whose name was Nathan Knorr. Knorr seems to have sophisticated the Russellites and honed their edge leaving them with a lot of memory work to tell of the Watch Tower. (They have memorized messages when visiting your front doors. He has added a bit of psychological “voodoo” to their damnable lies in that they expect and welcome rebuff and rejection when they are turned a way having been taught it is proof from God they are doing His will. This allows them to take much more criticism than ever before thinking they have “suffered for the name of the Lord”!! Oh yes, they also have to turn in their “time-slip” listing the number of “calls” they make. If they do not make their quota, they are ex-communicated from the congregation.
The history of the Jehovah’s Witnesses- tracing their theological ancestry from the days of Arius of Alexandria through Nathan H. Knorr, reveals a checkered eclectic pattern of theological perversion, amply seasoned with sincerity and delivered to an innocent public by a zealous group of badly misled persons. These people have been “controlled” beyond reason by the Watch Tower into a “zombie-like” state, and they proffer Russellite mythology to a lost world that in reality needs the Gospel of Christ, not Russellism in any form!!
One of the best at their gift, the “Society” possesses a remarkable gift of changing the appearance of coming from the teachings of Charles Taze Russell. This chameleon-like strategy makes it not embarrassing for them when people know the history of Russell. In the early days before Pastor Rutherford named Charles Taze’s bastard religion they called themselves “Bible Students”. When the group grew so fast Russell found it necessary to incorporate under an official name. This Russell did, in 1879, when he founded “Zion’s Watch Tower Magazine”, today known as “The Watch Tower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom” This was later changed to “the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society”. He moved them to New York and organized the “International Bible Students”.
