Last Week of Jesus’ Life

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 32

“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it…” Matthew 26:26 How long, when eternity existed with Those who possessed the nature called God (for with Them it has never ceased to be), when time was not yet for we who are of the nature called human beings, did the Creator and Sustainer of all things, who had covenanted with Him who is called “The Father” to come and die for the sins of the yet uncreated, had He anxiously waited to get to introduce this observance that would declare the justification of His death? No other part of Christianity exonerates the purpose and glory of the sacrificed life like the Lord’s Supper, and when the Law of Moses was passing away, when the Patriarchal covenant was slipping into fulfillment; the Son of God from realms beyond our understanding held in His hands the representative of His sacrificed body!! No one could deny the life and its purpose after the introduction and observance of this Supper. He was holding it in His hands, the hands that was anxiously waiting to pay the price for our freedom by being nailed to an old rugged tree, the hands that held the hope of all the redeemed God’s sacrifice. For our hands that now hold this bread which declares Him free from sin also declares that our souls, when partaking, are declaring the new birth into which he or she has entered and that we are in a continuous covenant relationship with Christ!! Every time we partake of this broken bread, we are reaching back to a period when time did not exist and forward to His second coming! These were the hands of Sacrifice, not the hands of a hireling. These were not the hands of a coward, who some have taught who would cry to “get out of the death” that would purchase our freedom. These were not the hands controlled by human emotion and passion, for like ALL the events of the last week, these hands were in control of everything that was and would be taking place! These were the hands of the God’s sacrifice!!
God, the Father has not remained silent on this subject. The apostle Paul wrote by inspiration of the Holy Spirit; “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the world, and received up into glory.” 1 Timothy 3:16 God was declaring, defending, exonerating the death of His Son so we who are apart of His kingdom might “tarry long…in the house of God”, for it is she which supports and holds up to the eyes of all mankind, this truth of the glorified Son when she partakes!! 1 Timothy 3:15 God wrote a book, called the Revelation, so His children could know the fulfillment and completion of the death, burial, and resurrection (“those things which had just shortly come to pass,” which had been declared by the Old Testament prophets, Revelation 1:1-4), gave it to the Church of Christ by a special type of inspiration, Paul to John (as Paul had seen this revelation in Paradise but it had to be finalized through the Holy Spirit) just to justify the death of His Son!!
Here, He now stands, with this unleavened bread in His hands!! Something that been apart of every Passover, but who’s significance was not understood. It truly had been a long arduous journey from eternity to this point in time, but, He is not regulated by time, is He? God as Christ feared not to have set beside the devil’s representative when He arose to introduce this Supper. He did not worry that He would be able to carry out to the minutest detail the “mystery of the ages” (only some of His faithless children would teach that lie from Hell), nor did He consider in that night, a night so full of events, emotion, and history that this Supper might by His children be overlooked (it is only overlooked by they who are false Christ, false apostles, and teachers of damnation). He did not seem concerned that His request to “do this in remembrance of Me,” would be forgotten by all who have “born again.” For all we who are in the Kingdom of God’s dear Son partake of this bread EVERY first day of the week, as requested!! It is only the religious but lost, they “who partake and are damned,” and have no spiritual birthday to celebrate that mock this great event by “setting the table” when they get good and ready!!
Here, stands, the Captain of our salvation, the messenger of the covenant, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and the bright and morning star with the representative of His flesh in His hands and tells His apostles, save one, “I Am going to prepare a place for you,” the same message He gives everyone of us who partake every first day of the week!!! And to the denying, the weak, and the unlearned; He was not worried about dieing! He created death!! He is NOT HUMAN, HE IS GOD!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 31

Imagine coming together to arrange the death of Jesus Christ and that death had already been arranged!! Imagine the puny efforts of men and nations contriving to bring to an end the “plan of God” called the “mystery” when the Godhead had already ordered, established, and decreed its eternal existence!! “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against His Anointed, saying, Let us break Their bands asunder, and cast away Their cords from us..” Psalms 2: 1-10 “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: while as yet He had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world….” Proverbs 8:22-36 Man did not determine when Christ was to die, God had already decided!! The plan/hidden mystery/wisdom of God was before anything created and it was always with the Godhead!! In Matthew 26:1-4 Judas and the Sanhedrin might have thought themselves important when they came together to implement their scheme to end the life of Jesus of Nazareth, but they were at least 6000+ man years and back into eternity where time was not, late!! Jesus did not die because some man or group of men decided He would!!
Jesus had “set His face toward Jerusalem,” Luke 9:51. “When the time was come that He should be received up, He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem” “that the glory of God, that the Son might be glorified thereby.” John 11:4 All the prophecies concerning His death, burial, and resurrection must be fulfilled-Jesus went to Jerusalem, to die!! Thomas caught the message when John recorded him saying, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him,” John 11:16, but it seems that some of our brethren missed that day in class. The Stone had been “set at nought.” Acts 4:11
Jesus and His disciples ate the last Passover meal, together. Not all the disciples went to prepare the Passover, only two-Peter and John, Mark 14:13. Luke tells us an unusual way Peter and John could identify the place for the meal, Luke 22:10. As they went into the city, they would find a man carrying a water jar. This would be an unusual sight, for in that area and time, women always carried the water, and still do. They were to follow the man to a house and tell the owner Jesus wanted to eat the Passover, there. In identity, this man is believed to have been John Mark’s father. In the Passover meal the father or chief person of the house opened by uttering two blessings. Then, the first cup of grape juice was drunk. The food was brought in. After the first part of the song of praise (Psalms 113-116) had been sung, the second cup was drunk. The father took bread, spoke the blessing over it, broke it and shared it. Only then was the Passover lamb consumed. After the meal, the head of the family blessed the third cup together with a concluding prayer of thanksgiving. Finally, the second part of the song of praise was sung. As they ate together, suddenly Jesus made a startling announcement: one of them would betray Him! No attempt was seen of Jesus to run (as some of our brethren, preach). Foretelling one of them was a betrayer, the disciples were saddened. They asked the Lord, “Lord is it I?” Judas asked, too. He was the last disciple to ask, Matthew 26:25 Verse 23 tells who this villain was to be. Wonder if Jesus missed any thing He prophesied would come to pass? He prophesied that night, He would die!! Jesus warned Judas for the last time telling him of the judgment he was bringing on himself. It did not seem to phase Judas. Only Matthew tells us the query of Judas to Jesus, “Master, is it I?” Jesus said, “thou art he that speaketh.”
As though His death was just a part of the plan, Jesus, then took the unleavened bread, again, and prayed. He introduced a meal now which was not a part of the Passover. The type now was to give way to the anti-type. “Take eat, this is My body.” The bread was to replace, personify, represent His body. Associated with the Passover, it meant His body would be represented by the unleavened bread He held in His hands. Usually, when eaten at the passover, the bread was dipped into a dish of bitter herbs and eaten. The bitter herbs represented the hard, bitter way, and anguish of the soul experienced by the sinner out of Christ. They were a long way from Egypt, now!! Christ had come!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 30

Jesus had determined to die!! It was no accident, the Sanhedrin did not have their will and way with the Lord of Glory, it was the Lord Jesus’ will that decided the time of His capture and death!! Caiaphas, the high priest, and the rest of the hierarchy believed they were making the plans which would rid them of this deceiver once and for all, but it was all a part of the divine plan etched in the reality of that eternity which preceded time, that determined this date, time, and place.
“Then” in verse 3 of Matthew 26 indicates a temporal sequence here, as it does in verse 14. Jesus’ words were followed by the discussion in the Sanhedrin, This was no impromptu meeting of the Sanhedrin, this meeting was in their normal meeting place and so translated as “court,” “inner hall,” but the word used describes the “palace.” Also, three groups of men were assembled together this day; chief priests, scribes, and elders. Men who composed the 71 member High Council (Matthew 16:21; Matthew 27:41). This was an official meeting!!
The capture and killing of Christ had been discussed in the Sanhedrin previously (Matthew 21:46; John 11:47 to 12:10). In this meeting it was decided not to have Him arrested and killed, openly. It is possible there had been contact between Judas and the Sanhedrin before this! It was not the Passover Feast as such that gave them the problem, but the mass of pilgrims and its composition. Had the crowd have been made up of Galileans, it would have caused a mis-carriage of the Sanhedrin’s idea. They would have been afraid the celebrating crowd would take Jesus’ side! Remember, Jesus had said in verse 2 His death would take place during Passover! And indeed, it happened as God wanted!!
The disciples became indignant when Mary, the sister of Lazarus came in with an alabaster box full of very expensive ointment. Judas saw his time to foment confusion among the other eleven and spoke up; “this is a waste of money, it could have been sold and the monies given to the poor.” Immediately, Christ spoke up and defended His friend, Mary. “She has done a good work, for the poor you have with you always. For in that she has poured this ointment on My body, she did it for My burial!! Matthew 26:10-12 The Greek tells us this was because of jealousy. Mark gives us the value of the ointment to be 500 danari (about a years wages). The disciples kept talking about this incident amongst themselves. Jesus saw that something or someone had caused the discontent to continue and like the Captain He was and is, He interceded on her behalf; “this is a good work, it portends My death, burial, and resurrection!” She had poured out the whole jar of ointment, an expression of her gratitude for His teachings and healings. It was not a stingy, begrudging pittance that some would attempt to give!! The disciples had no way to understand that into which they had entered, that is, the departure of their Lord. This was a prophecy and Christ quoted them the verse of scripture from Deuteronomy 15:11 to reveal the significance of this event. He was leaving them!! Jesus wanted the woman’s act that was called a “good work.” His body would not have the time to receive the anointing demanded when they would take it down from the tree because of the Passover feast! After His death, as the odor ‘filled the house,’ the gospel of salvation would “fill the entire world”!! Think He was not planning this??
Judas kicked into high gear, did Christ know of his treachery? He mentioned His death!! Was his preparedness to cooperate in the murder of Christ being exposed?, what IF the other disciples picked up on what Jesus had said? Imagine being Judas. Knowing the Christ had knowledge of his treachery made Judas go immediately to his accomplishes to secure the deal. YOU MEAN HE HAD ONLY A PROMISE!! Like his father, Satan always does, Judas only got the promise of the monies, not the money itself!! Satan never delivers on terms of respect or honor to the individual, it seems he just has to get in his last two cents, as they say, to mock those who do his bidding!! When Judas brought to the Sanhedrin the message that Jesus was talking about His dieing, they might have taken this to mean that Jesus would not fight them and arouse the sentiment of the crowd that followed Him.
As usual, the Lord always intended to keep the commandments of His covenant even though the circumstances did not seemingly require their keeping. Many think death, birth, emergencies allow them to absent themselves from the commands of His covenant. The example of our Lord shows the way of God. The Passover feast was at hand and Jesus meant to keep this festival, as commanded!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 29

The Sanhedrin had a secret meeting on the Wednesday before the crucifixion of our Lord, they met to figure out a way to rid themselves and their nation of this Messiah. “And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, He said unto His disciples, ‘Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.” Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace (this infers this was an official meeting which would include all 71 members of the High Council; Matthew 16:21;27:41) of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas. And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill Him.” Matthew 26:1-4 On this day there is no record of our Lord’s activities, but Judas was busy! It is important to note that what Judas did was not impulsive, it was deliberate, it had been planned!!
This is the fifth time such a linking text occurs in the Gospel according to Matthew. The other occurrences are Matthew 7:28; 11:1; 13:53; and 19:1. “These sayings” clearly refer to chapters 24 and 25 of Matthew. The verbiage of verse one is important. Jesus was finished!!, according to the text, ALL Jesus ever intended to teach had now been taught, He was through, the time for teaching being over, the time for suffering was approaching!!!! Jesus introduced His fourth and last announcement of His suffering, mentioned previously in Matthew 16:21; 17:22,23; and 20:18,19, with the remark that in two days time it would be the Passover and on that day He would die, informs us that it was not the crafty plans of the Sanhedrin nor the desperate action of Judas, the traitor; but the Lord Jesus, Himself was the one who decided WHEN His death would occur. It was His will, His word, and His decision!! Caiaphas and the rest may have thought THEY were the ones who were going to set the date of His death, but our Lord made all the decisions about this WHEN He was going to become the sacrifice for His bride, the Church of Christ!! This death was apart of a Divine plan, not the coincidental element of time that decided when Christ would die!! Peter, later mentions this when the Holy Spirit inspired him to speak and Luke pen his words; “He was delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God,” Acts 2:23. From the very beginning Jesus moved in the direction of the cross how, then can some who preach the gospel teach that Christ never intended to die but was coerced and intimidated by the Father to carry out His plan??
There is no doubt that the killing of Jesus had been discussed in the Sanhedrin meetings previously, Matthew 21:46, but they were afraid of the people who followed Christ, not especially of they who lived in Jerusalem, but the strategy seemed to be that they had tried to contact Judas before Tuesday of this week, hence the phrase “take Him by subtlety (trick).” The people who followed Christ were mainly from Galilee and as a mass of people were considered pilgrims and vagabonds, but they had always showed an affinity to both Him and John, the Baptist.
“When Jesus was in Bethany,” (there is no “when” in the inspired text), shows us Christ had come to the home of friends, and why would they not be His friends, for Simon had been healed of leprosy, Lazarus had been raised from the dead, and Mary (who washed His feet with her expensive ointment and hair) had been particularly blessed by Him. Being His friends could have cost them for the Sanhedrin had commanded “if any man knew where He were, he should show it, that they might take Him.” John 11:57. We do not know the purpose of Christ being at this house, but it is reasonable to think this might have been a celebration of Lazarus resurrection. Martha served, as usual, while Mary took an “ointment of spikenard, very costly,” a whole pound, and washed the body of Christ. Whether Mary had heard of a previous anointing of Jesus by a woman of Capernaum, Luke 7:37, or if this was the same woman, Mary’s appreciation for the Lord was greatly seen. She anointed Him beyond the service a slave would render to a guest (which would be to wash His feet), humbly, in extreme submission, and at a great expense to herself; Mary dried His feet with the hair of her head. A woman’s hair was a sign of her glory (1 Corinthians 11:15), but she abandoned her glory to Him who would soon die for her!! As the fragrance of the ointment filled the room, hell came calling!! Judas was stirred. Satan NEVER is quiet when the valiant soldier of Christ is honored! Hate is “inside” them,it has to come out!One would wish the messengers of Calvary had the same problems-what’s in must come out!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 28

On Monday Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey, Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:29-41; John 12:12-15, the next 5 days were a totally orchestrated symphony and Christ was in complete control as the conductor. There was no event, incidence, or accidental event that took place, He was in complete control. When the Pharisees and Sadducees saw Him riding on the foal, they hated Him with a deeper passion than ever before. The Romans paid Him no mind.
The crowd, this day was made up of Galileans. This is very important for they were disciples of Christ in most cases. Thursday and Friday’s crowd was made up of Judeans, quite a different crowd. Coming into Jerusalem was an “in your face” move by the Lord. What were the enemies of Christ going to do with Him? The Pharisees were forced to take “the Law into their own hands.” “the Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? Behold, the world is gone after Him.” John 12:19 Christ was forcing their hand, it was time to go home!!
This was a different Jesus this week, He was on a mission, His face was set toward His death and nothing would be allowed to stop that. The parable of the fig tree, Matthew 21: 18-22; Mark 11:12-14, 20-26 symbolized the nation of Israel. They looked like the picture of health, they were in fact the tree of no fruit unto their God!! Christ cursed that tree!! If we bear no fruit, He will declare unto us; ‘depart, I never knew, you.”
He went on to the temple, entered it and found thieves and robbers. Jesus was God with a temper, He began to drive them out of the temple, declaring; “Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? But ye have made it a den of thieves.” The temple was suppose to be the place of worship, a place to give reverence to God, look what they had done to it!! When the Jews had come to worship, they had used the Hebrew shekel in exchange from the Greek drachmas or Roman denari; the rate of exchange was exorbitant, they were robbing the people who were showing their devotion to God! Jesus was not a coward, He was not a push-over, He was a man’s man; He took a whip and began to run them out of the temple. Then came the signal event of the day; the Gentiles ask Philip to introduce them to Jesus!! John 12:21 Suddenly, there was a second audible message from Heaven. “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” John 12:28 The intent was to tell Christ as the Jewish world was listening, “if the Jew rejects Christ, the Gentiles will not.”
Tuesday was the busiest day for Christ. When He had cleansed the temple, the Pharisees ask Him what authority allowed Him to do this. He answered with a question, Matthew 21:23-27 He answers them using three parables (He did not intend them to understand!) The parable of the two sons (the second son was the Gentile), the parable of the householder that planted a vineyard (“How oft would I have gathered thee as a hen doth her brood, and you would not.”, and the wedding banquet (“in Christ” you put on the wedding garment. You cannot come into Christ kingdom declaring yourself a Jew and that is all, ‘cast him into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:1-14). Seems some “church folk” might not enter the kingdom, but harlots and publicans could and would!! Jerusalem was God’s town, the temple was God’s residence and the Jew had refused God!!
Then, humanity tried to debate Deity! If none of us could read, we would know the outcome!! “Render unto Caesar” and “who’s wife shall she be” was asked to mock Christ. Jesus answered: “it is My time, your foolishness is contemptible”, ”Who was the Son of David?” “I Am the resurrection and the life.” When He went to leave the temple, He wept over their insolence and mockery, for they were the leaders of the people who had been chosen to bring the Messiah into the world! Matthew 23:37 In Matthew 24, He berated the preachers of His gospel: “if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth His coming; and shall begin to smite his fellow servants and to eat and drink (as though nothing is going to happen as Christ had prophesied, He concludes with parables to His Church!!”
Wednesday, nothing is mentioned concerning our Lord. What we find is the deliberate intent of Judas to deliver our Lord. “In two days the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.” Satan called an impromptu meeting of his followers in a secret session; “kill Him” they decided.

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 27

When the kingdom of grace and mercy has been brought to an end, when there is no longer probation or forgiveness of sin, when there is no distinction between the kingdom of grace and the “everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”, 2 Peter 1:10-11, Christ, shall cease to exercise the distinction in purpose or dominion He was given to fulfill, THEN, God will be “all in all.” 1 Corinthians 15:28 They have withheld Their identity so much, that we do not even know their individual names if They who are of that nature even have such!! At this juncture there will no need for the distinction between the persons of the glorious Trinity to exist. The Trinity will not have to act in separate parts or roles, for the purpose of this “role playing,” having ended, has ceased, have been fulfilled and completed as fashioned and designed, the personalities of Deity, which will never cease as separate and individual, will be as They were before the great “plan of the ages, the mystery of God” began!! THEN, for the first time, we who have “remained faithful unto death” will see Him as He is!! 1 John 3:2 Just think!!, for the first time, we will be able to see Christ “as He is.”
When you see people in roles, they are different that thy are when not functioning in those roles. A man is different in different roles-father, husband, provider, teacher. Many times we do not really know the real man. I was never more understanding of this truth until I saw my father after the death of my mother. He was seemingly a completely different man. I knew him in part, not as the whole! As a son, I never saw him in his totality as a man. Sometimes we see our friends as job associates, church associates, family associates and fail to see the whole. We saw Christ as He was in the Old Testament. Here, He was aloof, impersonal, and forced to be separated; for in that covenant(s) no one was of His kind, nature, or person. “For all had sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Truly, then, we never really SAW our Lord, as He is. When on earth, He was a servant, a sacrifice, an obedient Son who was doing the “will of the Father” taking all the abuse, reviling, and punishment of the sacrificed Lamb of God, which takes away the sins of the world (church),” again, we never REALLY saw Him “as He is.” After His resurrection we saw Him pictured as different, authoritative, and intensive, determined to establish the apostles in heart and mind. Still, we did not know Him “as He is.” We are told more about Him as High Priest and King, after His resurrection, but STILL, we do not know Him “as He is.” But, when all has been completed, distinctions are ended, roles have been put aside as finished; we who have “fought a good fight and finished our course and kept the faith,” for the first time, “will see Him as He is.” This word “is” is the Greek word pas, it means the totality.
It was the prayer of Christ in the garden of Gethsemane; “Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me; for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world.” John 17:24 It may have never occurred to many of us that NO one has ever seen our Lord as He is, was, and will be for eternity. They who serve Him with honesty of heart and purpose await a great delight not even recognized by some. The resurrection of Christ was the first, the first of a kind, it preceded what WE will be and are. Man has NEVER known who or what he is, as with the final reality of Christ being seen, the final reality of the redeemed man shall be known!! The question asked so many times; “Who am I?” will finally be answered!! Christ is the first fruits of our kind and the first fruits of our reality.
The outside world cannot “know” us, for we have been advanced far beyond the physical, social, and spiritual relationships that they might understand. The world has never had the spiritual delight of a single time with our God in prayer, in worship, in His rapturous love. They cannot know that about us. We are different, yet like them in other ways. You cannot expect them to “know”! Our kind have been stoned, cut asunder, tempted, slain with the sword; wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; of whom the world is not worthy!! and if they did know, they did not know us, for as yet “we have not received the promise!!” The unchristian world cannot know our dignity, our joys, our enjoyments as they can never know we are the favorites of God headed to Heaven, but look upon us as failures. This is the way the world looked upon our Lord when He cried; “it is finished,” even our brethren tell us He was a failure. Oh!! what they don’t know!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 26

Three Beings of superior intelligence, communication, understanding, and abilities have invited you and I to spend an endless period of time with Them without want, doubt, or necessities and some have the temerity to turn that down?? Of special interest is the price They decided to pay to procure for us such an invitation and reality. Further probing this special offering, They determined to have One of Them show man what love would do, showing the dignity and respect with which They considered our estate. In this great act of love, occurring over 6,000+ years, They determined the final week of Their representative on this planet would be filled with agonies unusual in the human experience, higher in difficulties and consequences far above any other week in the life of humanity. Yet mankind determined Them a failure and the One Representative They sent us defeated by the same mankind He created!! Imagine, some Being so high and above our nature, who created out of nothing our substance, and we have the unimaginable ridiculousness to think He could be defeated by we whom He made!! Is this not just like the stupidity of an inferior being concerning a Superior Being??
Mankind thinks to make himself be soverign lord of this special created world, so he has to make the Creator equal to himself by defining Him by standards man defines man!! Reasonable and clear-thinking humanity would immediately rebel at the thought!! If Christ was smart enough to make us would it not seem reasonable and rational that He would be smart enough to not be defeated in His purposes by what He had created?! Forget that Christ was the only Being of His kind that was ever housed in human flesh, forget that this same Christ was the creator of all things, and forget that, true to His nature, He could not fail at anything while you remember that mankind establishes Him as inferior to mankind in His death (for many of the representatives of mankind went through the same type death and agony, temptation and trial, debauchery and dishonor and yet NEVER gave way to what the elite among us think our Christ gave in to thereby denying the fulfillment of His Father’s plan and 6000+ years of planning and preparation)!! Truly, when man’s eye is dark and Satan-directed oh! how deep is that darkness!!
Aren’t you glad that this same God had the infinite intelligence to recognize that not ALL of us are this blind-sighted and recalcitrant?? Knowing His wisdom and might, we see Him offering Heaven to the man who chooses Him! These are NOT the ones who claim they love Him, these are the true, tried, and tested that PROVE they chose Him and that by the way they obey the precepts of His new testament! These are not the ones who claim His lordship, then violently disobey His commands because they prefer the doctrines and emotions of man to the non-human and beyond human commands. The ones invited are we who have prepared our hearts to do whatsoever His written Word has demanded!! The rationality behind some of His commands escape us. What is rational about dipping our human bodies in water and telling us that would save? What is rational about instructing the baptized sons and daughters to gather once a week and partake of tasteless unleavened bread and non-fermented fruit of the vine to show our love for Him? Explain the human rationality behind His command to sing, preach, pray, give, and partake of His supper when we meet to worship instead of doing things man would like!! Tell us why mankind has not picked up on the fact that the commands of our Lord have to be higher than man’s thoughts and not give way to the emotions, feelings, and experiences that humanity would dictate? Yet, mankind will say; “I see not blood in the waters of baptism” or “why every first day of the week do you partake of the Lord’s Supper,” or “the services of the Church of Christ are boring compared to the emotional, sensational, assemblies of our denominational church? Why tell mankind “sprinkling water on someone is just as good as immersing them in a tank!!” Isn’t it interesting that the same denominational bodies that reject His commands for baptism that demand an understanding that salvation cannot precede or follow anything else are the same denominations that reject His demands for worship as He has commanded?? Is it not rational, then to think that the “feel good, gonna have my experience of joy salvation testimony, sprinkled, and entertained when I assemble” sinner will not make the cut when Christ comes back?? “The blind lead the blind, and they all will fall in the ditch” seems to fit best describing this mis-lead sojourner!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 25

There are no celebrations that could match the homecoming of Christ to God the Father and the Holy Spirit. Daniel 7:13-14 Only They, who are of the same nature, could plan for the joy and fulfillment His arrival brought. Human thought on this would miss what only to Deity can fulfill this expectation. Nothing within our realm can anticipate, guess, or know what reward from over 6,000 years of effort feels like when the end of that journey has been reached, but God.
Christ went home!! He will never return to the planet Earth, again!! What would He do or accomplish IF He came back here?? He has fulfilled all the Father had for Him to do, He has fulfilled every prophecy made, saved every soul that could be saved, interceded/advocated for every half brother or sister, fought every foe in every arena, and for every cause that would have stopped His tri-umphant return home, shed every ounce of blood that needed shed, and loved His Church enough to return to this planet and take Her home with Him. Why or what need would He have of ever coming back to this place? Especially when it will not even exist!! There are those who claim He is coming back to reign a 1,000 years in Jerusalem. Why? He went home and “sat down to reign”!! Hebrews 1:3 The only thing left on this planet that was worth coming back for are the bodies of His redeemed. Those bodies will be raised to meet Him at His coming!! 1 Corinthians 15:44-50 He will want nothing else!!
In the times of the Roman emperors when a victorious general returned to Rome there was always a great parade planned and executed. The whole city would turn out to welcome the great hero. As the parade began, the shouts of joy could be heard miles away. The vanquished who had fallen began the march with the citizens of Rome throwing stones, sharp pieces of metal at them jeering them as they paraded in their view. Following these were the soldiers of distinction who had fought the battle successfully, being given honor and shouts of glee from the crowd. Then, the captains and officers, with all the honor Rome could bestow, came into sight. Then, the children of the commanders could be seen. Finally, the commander himself would come into view and at his side was his wife and children. The noise level was thunderous at this point when the reigning Caesar would step out and place on this general’s head a wreath of victory. The procession length was determined by the greatness of the battle fought. This is how some think the Judgment Day will begin when Christ returns with His Bride, the Church of Christ “when He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed in that day).” 2 Thessalonians 1:10
This is what the last week made possible. This is why the great commanding “captain of our salvation,” Hebrews 2:10, spent His last grueling hours on that old rugged cross and never retreated!! This is “the hope that is within us and why each purified himself,” 1 John 3:3. “Then, shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father.” Matthew 13:43 He, who “spoke all things in parables,” Psalms 78:2, having kept things secret from the foundations of the world, will reward the Sons of the Most High “because we are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. He will render to them dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.” Romans 13:7 This in and will be Heaven!!
Heaven? A place, a sphere of influence, a condition, then, a reality. Where it is and where it will be is kept secret. It be where God is, it is not where He is not-that describes, Hell. As a place, it is said to be the abode of God. The first heaven has passed away. In this “heaven” sin reigned over man and separated him from God. This earth is no more, 2 Peter 3:8-11; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9. This “new heaven and new earth,” a new circumstance and condition where salvation is no longer anticipated but enjoyed – Isaiah 65:17;66:22; 2 Peter 3:13; Hebrews 2:5-8; Hebrews 11:14 was prophesied as that which “eye had not seen, ear had not heard; neither had it entered into the heart of man what God had in store for them that love Him. But God has now revealed unto us by His Spirit: (for the Spirit searches all things, yea the deep things of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 In this “heaven” we are physically here on this earth but at home with God. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 when we are “in Christ” having been added to His bride, the Church of Christ. Then, there is the “eternal” kingdom, 2 Peter 1:11!! This heaven is what Christ came from to make available to us. Friend, are you headed, home?

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 24

It may seem insignificant to some, but the only Being God intended to be both King and High Priest at one and same time is the Christ of God. There were other kings that tried to officiate as high priest and offer sacrifice to God, but they all failed. The first to remembrance was the first king of Israel, King Saul. Saul had made war with the Philistines. Jonathon had smitten the garrison at Geba and the Philistines came to retaliate. So fearful were the Jews that they hid themselves in caves and thickets, rocks and mountains and in high places. When a numberless legion of Philistines came up against Saul, Saul was waiting in Gilgal for Samuel to make sacrifice to God and inquire how the battle would fare. Samuel did not come as soon as Saul thought he ought to. Saul grew restless and fearful, everyday the Jews were getting more scared and harder to handle. “And Saul said, ‘Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings….And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came.” 1 Samuel 13:8-13. Saul had taken to offer a sacrifice. ‘there was to be NO king that was to serve in the dual capacity as priest nor any priest be king!! Only ONE king was to be High Priest at the same time He was King and that was to be Christ. “and the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, ‘speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is THE BRANCH; and He shall grow up out of His place, and He shall build the temple of the Lord (the Church of Christ): Even He shall build the temple of the Lord; and He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His throne, and He shall be a priest upon His throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” Zechariah 6:9-13
Joshua, the son of Josedech was to be given a significant promotion in rank and place to declare a prophecy. He was to be be made king. Joshua is a name that is used in memory of the greatest leader of the army of Israel who invaded the promised land and delivered the land to the Jew as promised by God. “and the Lord gave unto Israel ALL the land which He sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein….There failed not aught of any good thing which the Lord had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.” Joshua 22:43-45 Now, Joshua, the son of Josedech, who was already high priest, is commanded to receive both the silver (king) and gold (high priest) crowns. This was to point to Christ when He was to be both King and Priest of the Most High God. “The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit Thou at My right hand , until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool….The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” Psalms 110:1-7 On the day of Pentecost in A D 33, Peter declared; “ye men of Israel…let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord (King) and Christ (High Priest).” Acts 2:36
God was showing that “in the fulness of time” Christ would be both King and High Priest. This signal event of Zechariah could not be mistaken for anyone but Jesus Christ!! For they who would think this refers to the damnable lie called pre-millenialism, Peter declares “God hath made that same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ in that He raised Him from the dead .” Based on this preaching, the Jews who were listening cried out to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, ‘Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ (who is NOW declared both King and High Priest) for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:37-38
When Christ “rode on a cloud to the Ancient of Days, there was given Him a kingdom (empire), dominion (authority to govern), and glory.” Daniel 7:13-14 As He exercised His Kingship, inherit with His Kingship came His Priesthood, giving Christ Jesus the office of High Priest, for so the order of Melchizedek demands!! We, who are His subjects reign as “priest and kings,” subject to His authority and dominion, as He reigns, Revelation 5:10, and will “reign with Him for a thousand years (the symbology that shows all that belong to God.). Revelation 20:4 This shows us WHEN Christ became both King and Priest!! It was at His resurrection, not His second coming, it was when He rode TO the Ancient of days, not when He COMES BACK on that cloud on which He had gone to receive His kingdom, dominion, and glory!! Revelation 1:7, Acts 1:11

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 23

“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, One like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. And there was given Him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” Daniel 7:13-14 He AROSE, HE AROSE, hallelujah, Christ arose!! He had fought the battle that had allowed Him victor over death, hell, and the grave, having entered the strong man’s (Satan’s) house, spoiled his goods (taken by craft and deceit, Satan had held against their will and desire, they who had been servants of Christ while they lived on the earth, but had sinned), “lead captivity captive (held captive (under his control) by the power of death) and at the same time (sending the Holy Spirit in baptismal, controlling measure on the apostles) He gave gifts to men (the Holy Spirit imparted miraculous measures).” Ephesians 4:8-11
Described in Psalms 24:7-10, the red carpet of Heaven was His on which to walk to enter the grand hall of eternity, no splendor or glory was left out as He came into the presence of His Liege. “They brought Him near before Him,” As He entered, He entered in the greatest garment ever worn, the garment of His glory, a humiliated, decimated, beaten, unrecognizable body of human flesh (human flesh and blood had never before entered these palaces) who had conquered (not defeated, but conquered) all the foes of His domain and what was given Him was the hand of she for whom He died!! She was there, having married the Son from the foundations of the world, now dressed in fine linen, clean and white. Kingdoms composed of priest, prophets, and kings of two covenants (whose blood the Son of God had run backward to cover) joined they who had never sinned and were now given residence in the courts of Heaven with an innumerable company of angels anticipating the addition of qualified trillions who would “repent and be baptized for the remission of sins, made apart of the ever burgeoning Church of Christ until time would discontinue!! Acts 2:38
Upon arrival in Heaven, one could not but feel the moment the Father broke the silence “What is this that thou hast done?” Silence was all around, then the overwhelming voice of His Majesty spoke, again. “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against His Anointed. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Yet, I have set My King upon My holy hill of Zion (approved the marriage of Christ and His Church). I will declare the decree: Thy Lord hath said unto Me, Thou art My Son, this day I have begotten Thee. Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Thy kingdom. Thou has loved righteousness and hated iniquity, Therefore God, even Thy God, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows. And Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands. They shall perish, but Thou remainest: and they all shall wax old as doth a garment: And as a vesture shalt Thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not fail. Sit Thou on My right hand until I make Thy foes Thy footstool.”
Christ was treated with the royal splendor due the Captain of the Armies of God. And that was the secret, He returned TO FIGHT!! Not a coward by silenced by death, a stint in the Hadean world, or human pain and anguish calmed His demeanor, this CAPTAIN had returned to launch a campaign for the souls of mankind armed with a new directive from the Father: “Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek!!” Christ did not return to the world, He sent the Holy Spirit armed with the “mystery of the ages” seeking they who would love the grace and mercy of the Godhead. In the hotbed of Judaic faith where thousands of Judaic Levites offered “sacrifice which did not do the comers any service,” where Moses was enshrined as the closest thing to God imaginable, where the priesthood of Levite was the foundation of the Law of Moses: there in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, fifty three days after His ignominious death at the hands of mankind, Christ opened His arms to “whosoever will” and invited us into the Church of Christ. She is the ONLY Bride He has or ever will have!!
