Last Week of Jesus’ Life

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 22

When it occurs and we do not pick up on it, we often miss the importance of the event. When has an anti-type preceded a type? When has the spiritual been shown before the physical? Such was and is the case in Christ and Melchizedek, Melchizedek is introduced to man before his anti-type. Search all the records of scripture and no where will you find this to be.
The great High Priest of God is Christ. Unlike any other, He defied comparison. Any office in which He would participate would have to be the same. The first time man knew of such a thing as a high priest, the type shows the significance of his office. Before the mentioning of Melchizedek, Christ held this position as promised Him by God, the Ancient of Days during the council meeting mentioned in Isaiah 9:6. Being the “messenger of the council,” it was left up to the covenant of Christ to explain this most sophisticated office.
Before the explanation of the High Priest of God, the high priest of men must be noticed, Aaron. Who he was, his stature and position in the government of Israel, and power an authority was unquestioned. Unlike the “messenger of the covenant,” Aaron was held is such high esteem he was worshiped. The apostle Paul defined this understanding of this man when in Acts 23. Even though Ananias was wrong, Paul was smitten. Just what position priest held is the beginning of our understanding of the high priesthood. Never before the law of Moses were priest mentioned. The only mention was of Melchizedek. This new development of Mosaic instruction brought light to a new position children of God would attain in the New Testament Covenant.
Who was Melchizedek? The Jewish community believe it was Seth, the second son of Noah and father of the Semitic lineage. The apostle Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit differ with this. Paul writes in Hebrews 7, “And verily they that are of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham. But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, blessed him that had the promises. And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. Watch this again: but he (Melchizedek) whose descent is not counted from them (the Jews) received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.” Hebrews 7:5-6 Melchizedek’s ancestry did not come from the Semites, it came from the oldest son of Noah, Japheth the elder, Genesis 10:21 Melchizedek, like Christ, had “no father or mother nor beginning or ending of days.” This tells us that they had no predecessors nor successors in the priestly lineage-they neither came from a priestly line nor did a priestly line follow their existence on this earth. Again, the high priest of the world had to have all who are of that world subject to himself. Japheth, the oldest son of Noah, was kin to every existing on the earth because he, like Shem and Ham, were from the Ark of their father, Noah. This is that in which he was like Christ!! Every child of God is family to our Lord. He has bought with His blood. Our ancestral lineage is traced to Him. He originated, has sustained, and will “present us faultless before the Father.” As is the case with the priest of men (who minister to their brethren), the high priest ministers to God, not man. So, with Christ, who is at the right hand of the Father, He is there serving (ministering) to the constraints of the Father, not man. For those who think they can pray to Jesus, this will mess up their party. The High Priest (who serves us totally for the wishes of the Father to save all who will obey) has we, the priesthood of Christ on the earth to serve our brethren (not the purchased)
Melchizedek’s example as high priest over the entire population of the world shows the greatness of the plan of the ages. Christ arose to minister unto God for the things of His brethren. The last week of His life here on this earth was to make sure the plan was going through as Deity had planned. Every event of this last week on earth proved this to be true, even to the colt on which He was to ride victoriously into Jerusalem. Prepared to fulfill the plan of God, Christ is so far removed from not dieing on the cross that for anyone to teach that untruth is to preach atheism. Death was the vehicle to fulfill this plan. Christ was the king that God anointed and death was that anointing!! Now, forever, the Church of Christ has “our man in Heaven.”

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 21

Of all the things remembered that happened during the last week of Christ life on earth the one never considered is His exaltation as High Priest. Rising from the grave is all His glory, the Son of God, who had been so mutilated by the sons of men, arose to give all we who were “redeemed from the foundations of the world” the hope nothing else could offer. We now have a bigger brother who resides at the right hand of His Majesty who is our man in Heaven!! No one or nothing can equate to this greatest of great blessings. Imagine, always before the “face of His Father and our God,” Christ “ever lives to make intercession for the saints.”Hebrew 7:25 Don’t talk to me about Abraham, David, Daniel, or any of the other greats that were apart of Judaism, none of them had their own personal representative who is ever present where it counts the most!!
He took on Himself our nature. Although eternal, having never begun to be or cease to be, “in the fulness of time,” He took on our nature and combined it with divine nature and became the savior of all whom He would ransom with His blood shed on Calvary’s tree. He did not come as an spirit being we call “angel,” He took on Himself the nature whom angels were created to serve. Angels had sinned and He let them to writhe in the pain, anguish, and denunciation their actions demanded, yet mankind who was as sinful and vile, He succored!! And angels sinned only ONE time!! Succor comes from the Greek word boetheo which means to bring aid, help. Christ was never designed or designated “Savior of angels,” as their tree fell, so it would eternally be, but man, thought by most to be lower than angels, Christ took for His residency and in that distinctive nature, He rivaled the mystery of the ages and gave His life for OUR salvation!! The nature of angels could not be an atoning sacrifice for the sins of mankind, but Christ, who resolved Himself to be the succor of our race, determined to rescue man from the evils of the degenerate arch angel of the earth and give us equal son ship with Him when eternity again commenced. Now there is hope, even for “the chief of sinners” that was never afforded any other created nature. This ought to show the greatness of His “day of visitation” to our race and we must show respect to this distinguishing mercy which we alone have received!!
He became man that He might die, for as God He could not accomplish dieing, it was against His nature. The legal sacrifices God, the Father would not accept, so, in a prepared body “He came to do the will of God.” A qualification often missed in becoming the High Priest God, the Father would accept was that He had to suffer the pangs of death!! We might think this barbaric and a little overplayed if we did not consider that the only way He could destroy the power of Satan (death) was to die and take his power away from him. Satan was the first sinner, the first tempter to sin, and sin was the way into death. Death had terrified mankind, when man sins Satan accuses them to the Father, Who, because of His righteousness, God must turn man over to their new lord and god. Whether man chose out of ignorance or deceit matters not, the important thing is that man chose Satan, not God, the Father just like the angels that beforehand had done the same thing. These angels were “cast down from their first estate (their place of happiness and position of fellowship with God) but unlike mankind, angels had been created accountable, not naive and non-discerning, they had perfect understanding and perfect knowledge so their sinning was a willful disobedience whereas man committed sin because of deceit. Christ has so destroyed Satan and his power that Satan cannot keep a single one of his slaves in his power when the blood of Christ meets their soul/spirit. Christ became man so He could deliver man from the perplexities of the soul while stationing Himself as a Friend who was sent to so far remove the penalties death procured to the extent that death has now become man’s friend where the reward of salvation is given when obedient man is buried with his Christ in baptism. So death is no longer in the hand of Satan it is now in the hand of Christ and the conquered enemy has become the place where forgiveness takes place, not with hell following death but heaven wherein is man’s name written!! So much has Christ altered the affect of Satan. For this reason Christ has purchased for Himself a greater degree of service for mankind becoming the great High Priest pertaining to the things of God!! In His new position He can make all the attributes of the divine nature accessible to the human nature reconciling completely man and God!! WOW!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 20

Christ determined to die!! Some do not know why!! He came for this reason. It was a part of the “mystery” of God’s plan for Christ to die. It was His distinct honor and privilege to “taste of death for every man (Christian).” Hebrews 2:9 Christ knew His death opened THE door in God’s dealings with His church. Confident in His resurrection, Christ had previous to His death, arranged to meet His disciples on the day of His resurrection. He would show Himself alive “after His passion,” Acts 1:3.
When His disciples did not believe the reports from His open sepulcher, He was very angry with them. “And they, when they had heard that He was alive, and had been seen of her (Mary Magdalene), believed not. After that He appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. Afterward He appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen Him after He was risen.” Mark 16:11-14 Later, Simon Peter again states this truth: ‘Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that He said, “John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.’ For as much then as God gave them the like gift as He did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?” Acts 11:16-17 The angels at His sepulcher re-iterated: “He is not here, but is risen: remember how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee. Saying, ‘The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” Matthew 24:6-7 “all of you shall be offended because of Me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.” Mark 14:27-28 Sounds like Jesus was absolutely confident about His death, burial, and resurrection to have made such plans!! What would He have told His disciples had He “chickened out” as preach some?? “But after I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.” Mark 14:27
It is no wonder why the disciples went of into Galilee when they had heard Christ had risen from the grave!! What would have happened if He had decided NOT TO DO THE WILL OF THE FATHER?” Explain to the disciples at Galilee. If Jesus made it through Calvary, no one would wonder about the meeting in Galilee!! This would have changed the whole tenor of conversation had Christ walked into that meeting having just surfaced from running away from His pre-appointed meeting with Satan in Hades, would it not?? Instead of having “all power, in heaven and on earth,” Christ would have to have dismissed the earth. In His private worship service with John in Revelation 1, Jesus would have to have apologized for not stripping Satan of all his power. Satan would have had stripped Christ of His Deity, integrity, and truthfulness!! Christ did intend to die-BUT WHY?!!
Following His rondevue with death, the next thing in the great “mystery” was His change of function, He was to become the High Priest that was the pattern established that Melchizedek previously had shown of which we studied last week. Dieing for His church was the plan, but the greater part of the plan was His assigned ability to retain that which had been purchased. God did not bring into existence something to let it die. The greater purpose of the Messiah was His priesthood. The “Anointed One” has the power and position to bring to glory those whom His blood purchased. “Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest became us (we must be more important than any child of Abraham), who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.” Hebrews 7:25-26 This introduces what is often never studied, what often is alluded to in the Old Testament and now revealed as fulfilled, established, and functioning in the New Testament. If any ever considered the greatness of Moses, Abraham, or any of the Israelites, NOW they can see the singular greatness of the membership in the Church of Christ!! There is nothing with which to compare the privilege of being a member, added by He who is the great High Priest of God!!Knowing this as planned before eternity ceased and time began, was Christ over-dramatic when He prayed; “Father glorify Thy Son.” John 17:1 This was not a play on emotion, this was a statement of a fact, intended. He was not crying in FEAR, He was exalting God’s plan. It was fulfilled!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 19

Two other places in Psalms show us the exaltation and joy of Christ when He returned to the Ancient of Days following His resurrection. Psalms 2 and 110 revels in the assured completion in words that cannot be misunderstood. Psalms 2 states “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against His Anointed, saying, Let Us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from Us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore pleasure. “Yet have I set My King upon My holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten Thee. Ask of Me, and I shall give Thee the heathen for Thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” Psalms 2:1-9 Acts 4:25-26 add a thought, the understanding of just WHO determined Christ to die. “For to do whatsoever Thy hand and Thy counsel determined before.”
Jesus kept telling all who would listen, “I came to do the Father’s will.” It seems many have not listened. Christ died because it was the “Will of the Father”!! “When He came into the world, He saith, ‘Sacrifice and offering Thou wouldst not, but a body hast Thou prepared Me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hast had no pleasure.’ Then said I, “Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of Me) to do Thy will, O God….by which (God, the Father’s will) we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:5-10 In Psalms 40:5-8 the psalmist cries out: “Many, O Lord my God, are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto Thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. Sacrifice and offering Thou didst not desire; mine ears hast Thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast Thou not required (asked). Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of Me.” I delight to do Thy will, O My God; yea, Thy law is within My heart.” When Christ was with His disciples He said; “And He that sent Me is with Me: the Father hath not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him.” John 8:29 The word “always” is the Greek word pantote and means at all times. The gospel Christ preached was “taught (given) Him of God” and as Christ was “the Messenger of the Counsel,” Isaiah 9:6, His gospel would be the preached agreement made between The Father and the Son. At all times and in every way during His last week on earth, then, Christ was still “about the Father’s business.” Luke 2:49
Many cite Hebrews 5:7 as proof Christ had changed His mind. It reads: “Who in the days of his flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications unto Him that was able to save Him from death, and was head in that he feared.” Is this where Jesus humanity overtook His deity?? This is what is taught by some. Have we finally found Christ for once not doing the will of the Father?? Was He, who’s mission was mentioned in the ‘volume of the Book’ found in contempt of the high court of the Almighty?? As usual, we have to look at text and context. What is being discussed? It is the comparison and distinction concerning the priesthood of Christ and that of Aaron. Melchizedek is brought in for clarity, not confusion. There are many things said in the fifth chapter that fit Melchizedek and not Christ. One, Melchizedek had sinned. Hebrews 5:1 Second, every high priest offered for his own sins first, then for others. Third, Christ did not become high priest until His resurrection, if you please, His ‘call from God’ to arise (the words of Psalm 110:2-7), not before it. Fourth, Christ would “drink of the brook in the way” that is be the soldier prepared not overcome by battle. When the prayers mentioned were offered, it was before His coronation as king and appointment as high priest, Acts 2:28-30 and verses 5-6 of chapter 5. Fifth, the high priest in discussion had sinned, verse three. Sixth, the high priest mentioned was “saved from death,” and Christ died His glorious death to save mankind. His “being saved from death” applies to His “ending of days” as Melchizedek was His type, for Melchizedek himself died. Finally, He was praying for others, not Himself. John 17:11-17, “in the days of His flesh,” not in the days of His priesthood!! “Simon, Simon,…… I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not….” Luke 22:31-32

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 18

If Satan had been able to alter the will of Christ for the plan of God that would cause Him to want to back out of His death on Calvary, what would this teach us about God?? It would have meant failure on the part of Christ to not implicitly carry out the desires of God the Father. If Satan could accomplish such a turn of events, proving himself so powerful, would that not cause another to be more powerful that God?? If they were of human constitution would this not cause a rift between God the Father, God the Holy Spirit and God, the Son?? Satan was already ranked so powerful that on another occasion Michael and Gabriel (Satan’s equals Daniel 9:21-23; 10:13), they worked as a team to withstand him. If Satan could pull off the changing of the will and intention of a being that created him, he would stand is a sphere all his own. The story that began with love as the benefit to mankind could become an uncontrollable saga for all with ramifications unthinkable. Risk sometimes make decisions more personal and the dependency on the credibility of another makes the scope of the comfort greater; with Christ, as is taught in most religious circles, wavering in His intent to follow the plan which originated before eternity which ended before time began, the jeopardy of a successful completion, which is demanded for the salvation of mankind would make the episode in the Garden of Eden a lie!! God could not DO what He intended to do. He would at best be bragging about what He could not bring into existence. So the question which demands an answer to the questioning of Christ competency is was Christ a risk, would God who knows all things take such a chance?? So, not only does this atheistically originated idea question the competency of Christ, it also questions the qualification of the other two members of Deity!! Could Satan get Christ down here away from the strength of Heaven and cause Him to alter THEIR plan?? What a fearful thought!!
What is interesting and impossible to find is the ONE time when Jesus Christ ever intimated this mind change BEFORE the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. His repeated statements through His prophets, His communications with His disciples while He was teaching them, and His attitude and dedication to duty show completely the opposite!! Of all the statements before and after Gethsemane event none allow for such a conclusion. To desire God to be like man requires a lot of changes. Denominational-ism revels in their doctrines that would make God, man; but nothing of the kind is shown anywhere in pre-Gethsemanaic communications of Christ. In fact, the opposite is the pattern seen!! How could anyone who claims to believe in Jesus Christ doubt He would carry out what was set before Him, that to which He had agreed and covenanted?? As shown in previous articles, not only would this repentance make God inferior to and obedient to Satan, it would also allow some men to be superior in faith and commitment that Christ!!
If Christ can be doubted, who can feel confident about His telling disciples; “I go to prepare a place for you?” How could we ever be confident God, the Father would accept the blood of a turn coat? If His blood and sacrifice is brought into question, what about all the other claims He made as confidently as He made the claims in the Garden of Eden and worse, He made these claims in the presence of His nemesis, Satan. What an embarrassment!! To return to the Ancient of Days, a quitter!! By the way, this brings up another point of interest. Daniel records Christ return to the Ancient of Days. We are not left to guess as the kind of reception received. If He returned a coward, a quitter, or One who would not keep His end of the covenant we would expect His reception to be cold, scorned, or one full of consternations (amazement or terror that causes confusion, shock, dismay; alarm). Have you read what Daniel wrote by inspiration of the Spirit? Daniel 7:13-14 reads: “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, One like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. And there was given Him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” Does that sound to you like confusion, consternation, dismay or does it sound like joy, completion of a job well done, or that the glory He prayed to have returned Him was actually returned “when every knee bowed and every tongue confessed to the glory of God the Father”??

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 17

In the dispensation called the “fullness of times” Christ came to fulfill the “will of the Father” by dieing on the tree at Moriah/Calvary so we whom God created in His own image could spend eternity with the definition of love, compassion, and mercy. It was the end of the 6,000 years of dealing with human beings whom God the Father could not fellowship because of His holiness. God, the Son stepped down, condescended to come in the fashion of man, so God, the Holy Spirit, could communicate the totality of the “mystery of the ages.” All angels, spirits above, below, and between the realms of heaven and hell had anticipated the “unification of all things” both in heaven and on earth that would portend the re-reinstatement of eternity that had been interrupted when God created mankind. Satan and his demons knew there would come a time when his reign of captivity over the fallen sons of God would end. He and his had searched the scriptures looking for every clue, called prophesy, hoping to stop the “times filling up” to learn when his reign would end. Every statement made concerning the offering of God’s Son communicated by the Holy Spirit through man would be accounted untrue if Christ did not die at Calvary! After all the dealings with sin and mankind, death and grief, patience and hope would have been forfeited. Nothing God would have ever said could be AGAIN held as true and sure. Sin would become a tale of comedy while punishment because of sin a mockery. “Let God be true” could never be seriously considered for what is it that man could rely on if God could not carry out His plan to populate heaven, if redemption could be stopped, held off for a while, or dropped because Christ decided not to die!!
Where would Christ go when His life ended on the earth? Could He live in that physical body which He inhabited for endless time? Turning His back on the “will of the Father” would require Him to perform someone’s will even if it was just His, but, when He left this planet to exist in another realm who would want Him, who would take Him, and how could He face His Father the moment He awoke on the other side of life? He would have broken a bond, a confidence, and a union that had existed for an endless continuum!! How could you He go home when no welcome would greet Him? Look at the situation Christ would have gained for Himself if He had determined His will was not the Father’s will!! No, He did not have to do anything He did not want to do, He is and will always will be God, BUT, the end result of changing the plan at the time of crisis would be impossible to conceive!!
This was the “fullness of times.” This was why heaven and earth, time, and man was created. Plans must have an ending or they are nothing at all. The excitement of finishing, the reward of it all succeeding, and concept of enduring would have all been abated had Christ not died. There would have been no climax to God’s dealing with mankind. The word “fullness” is from the Greek word pleroma which includes the concept of totality. The shear thought of coming to the end having completed ever step in its sequence and order and not finishing the reason for which it all had begun is an joke someone forgot to laugh about. If no one had ever defined time for us, this is the definition of why time existed, otherwise eternity would have continued to be. So, the reason for creating, the time for which creation would have its purpose defined, and significance of both would not be. If Christ had not died for the church, who would have died in His place-there was no other!! “John wept much because not other was found worthy to open the book, neither to look thereon.” Revelation 5:4
The phrase “fullness of times” defines that which is has come to be!! God, the Father could not disallow the results of sin unless He had ended its rule and reign among men. The undertaking would have been taken under and Satan would have defeated God in all things, the created would have defeated the Creator and They of His like being. The picture of man and woman in the Garden would have been played out again. Adam from whom Eve came would not have been the ruler and the “law of order of all things” would again be denied. Christ submitted to be “made of a woman” but never to be subject to her will of whim. To be “made of a woman was His incarnation NOT His subjection!! There was something MORE in view for Christ coming into this world than just to relieve mankind from the bondage of some ceremonial law!! The intolerable yoke, which is the anti-type of Egyptian bondage, would have failed. Maybe a Greater than Moses” had not come??

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 16

One of the great events of our sacred recorded history was the visit of Elijah and Moses with Christ on the Mountain. On this mountain, away from the hustle and bustle of the world and its affairs, He metamorphosed, His body changed forms from the natural to the spiritual. In this body He received they who were without physical bodies at all, Moses and Elijah. Luke tells us He changed the fashion of His body. The Greek word for fashion here is eidos which means to change the form or kind of body in which He had lived. The fashion of the countenance of His body was not the same and what they spoke about was told in Luke 9:30: “they talked with Him about His “change” or exodus from this world which “would be accomplished at Jerusalem.”! From whence did Moses and Elijah come and what purpose was in their coming is often missed.
Often among the ancients there were ceremonies which heralded great changes. With the Hebrews when a son reached the age of responsibility and was to take over the affairs of the family, even the family of his father, they held the ceremony of adoption. The oldest son had by this time accomplished all that his father intended him to accomplish, wanting nothing, and was ready for promotion to be head of all his father had. This conclave was to honor the son and relieve the father and was held in utmost discipline. In the presence of friends and honored guest, the father would call the son to a higher platform, describe his honor and discipline, and place on him the leadership of all the father possessed. The Hebrew father would, they tell us, always have as a part of his speech this phrase; “this is my son, in whom I am well pleased.” The Roman Catholics use the word conclave for the assembly of bishops to select the next pope. On the Mount of Transfiguration Christ was accorded the authority and position of taking over ALL God, the Father, son, and Holy Spirit had promised Him. Here, He received the rite of adoption that awaits all we faithful who will have discharged their pledge of obedience on the Judgment Day. Galatians 4:1-6; Romans 8:23; Ephesians 1:5
Notice, it was given Him BEFORE His death, burial, and resurrection. This would make it impossible for anyone to assume Christ would then of go through all that would define Him as head over His body, the Church of Christ. Before the witnesses of the greatest men who had held the greatest positions before and after His death we would see Christ “receive honor and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 2 Peter 1:17
Having received of the Father this honor and glory, when Jesus had risen from the dead and before He ascended to the Father, could meet with His disciples and exclaim; “All authority has been given unto Me in heaven and on earth.” Matthew 28:18-20 He did not wait for the Jews to accept Him nor in fact the Gentile world. He arose “with healing in His wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.” Malachi 4:2 He, who had all authority, came forth from the grave with this authority. The Mountain of Transfiguration was Christ day of recognition seen by only a few. For He arose and about Him was this statement made: “declared to be the Son of God with power.” Romans 1:4 he had the power WHEN, not IF He arose!! It was already established that Christ would “rise from the dead and that His flesh would no more see corruption.” Acts 2:27 Christ would no longer be under the Law of Moses; “tutors and governors until the time appointed.” Galatians 4:2
Also, at this mountain conclave, Christ was to inform some of His children things He had already told His disciples, Matthew 16:18-of immediate events which would “shortly come to pass.” Revelation 1:1; Isaiah 14:9 Messengers from two worlds met with the Master of all worlds and would carry back the message: “He has risen, indeed.” Luke 24:34 “And if I, if I be not lifted up from the earth, can draw all men unto Me.” John 12:32 Moses carried this message back to the Hadean world in Hades and Elijah took the same message to the 3rd heaven. There would no longer be two places of abode for they who had died who had been in the flesh: “in the dispensation of (called) the ‘fullness of times’ He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him. Ephesians 1:10 How would Christ explain to Moses and Elijah the preaching of our brethren preaching Christ “chickened out” before Calvary and had to beg for help?? It is atheism!!

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 15

Often we read and do not understand because we are reading without thinking. Such is the case of God’s declaration in the Garden of Eden about our Lord’s purpose in coming to this world. All of us have read many times the tenth chapter of Hebrews and overlooked the declaration there made. “for it is impossible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore, when He cometh into the world, He said, Sacrifice and offering Thou wouldest not, but a body hast Thou prepared Me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hast no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of Me) to do Thy will, O God….Lo, I come to do Thy will, O God….By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.” Hebrews 10:4-10
The declaration in Eden was simple, forthright, and direct. After man had sinned, Christ called a meeting with the parties involved. That which He said to Adam and Eve was the recognition of the weakness mankind possessed. Man would and will sin!! “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 What Christ said to Satan destroys the atheistical doctrine so prevalent among the religious of the day: Christ begged not to die in the shadow of Calvary!! The purpose of this study is to point out the ridiculous insanity of this position. For the whole last week while on Earth, Christ was preparing to die. It was not something that came on Him suddenly nor was it something unexpected. He came to die!! Last week I pointed out that if Christ had not died we would be still in sin!! There was NO animal sacrifice would or could ever satisfy or appease the Almighty!!
Love had a plan and Love never questioned His role in bringing this plan into reality!! The whole of the “mystery of the ages” was announced in the Garden the day man sinned. “In the volume of the book” is often not understood. It literally means “before, from the beginning” Christ would die!! The purpose and plan for mankind from before the beginning was that Christ would die for the sins of His church and redeem it!! Not only had God decreed this and Moses wrote this truth from the very beginning of sin!! “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it (this enmity) shall cause (you, Satan) to lose your throne and you (Satan) will bruise His heel (take His life). Genesis 3:15 Look, my friend just WHEN this information was made known!! It was told that Christ would die!! This was at the beginning of the Book!! It was told in the very beginning of inspired revelation that Christ intended to die to purchase His church, and become High Priest so the purchased would be successful!! “Mine ears hast Thou opened, Thou hast fully instructed Me, furnished and fitted Me Psalms 40:6 How could some now deny this truth and have Christ act dishonorably in Gethsemane?? God prepared (declared) for Christ a human body in which to live. This body was found in the womb of Mary. Mary was betrothed, not yet married. Mary had not had sexual relations with any man so the seed (originator) of life would come from Mary and not a human male. This brings about many questions from the beginning-did God lie from the start? A declaration such as this one makes it impossible to believe in Christ as the Son of God and still think His death at Calvary was just a bad turn of events.
From the readiness and willingness of Christ to go through such an act shows us many things about Him whom we call both Lord and God!! When no less sacrifice would have been proper nor acceptable here we have Christ voluntarily when coming into this role proclaiming His joy in being honored as the chosen one to die for His Church!! Christ would come as a sacrifice but not only just as a sacrifice, He would come as King over the vaunted Church of Christ, but not just sacrifice, king: He would also come as a genuine hero for the second thing Christ would do was to take away a priesthood with which God the Father NEVER HAD DELIGHT! This would terminate the plan held mysterious from before the beginning of the ages which “eye had not seen, ear had not heard, neither had it entered into the heart of man what God had in store for them that love Him!! How could this conclusion have ever been happier for the Church of Christ because it was for It all these plans and arrangements were made. By ONE sacrifice He hath eternally vouchsafed our security amongst the redeemed. Mind cannot conceive of the glory He received when He returned Home!

If Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel could withstand death, never fearing, how can some who claim to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God ever consider the position they take UNLESS these were greater in faithfulness, loyalty, and more dedicated to duty than was He?? How could Christ explain to these brethren His fear and disdain for the plan from before eternity if He did actually get to Calvary and beg not to die?? Could we follow the Captain of the armed forces of Almighty God into battle with dedication thinking He just before the greatest contest of the war fell on His knees and pleaded with the Ancient of Days not to let Him die as some teach?? Did Jesus pray “not My will, but Thine be done” or “change Your will and let Mine be done”??
Sometimes punctuation alters understanding. If the punctuation is wrongly put, the meaning of the communication is altered. In the 60’s there was a group of “beatniks” who liked to think themselves special and not work. They would quote a verse of scripture and alter the meaning of the communication by altering the punctuation. They would cite the verse Paul by inspiration wrote to the church of Christ at Ephesus: “let him that stole, steal no more no more: but rather let him labor working with his hands the things which is good.” Ephesians 4:28 They would cite it this way: “let him that stole, steal; no more let him labor working with his hands the things which is good.” All they had to do was change the place the punctuation was put in the sentence and it would alter the whole thought. The same is done with the plea of Christ for His disciples. Some take it to be a plea of Christ for Himself and they cite it “if it be Thy will, let this cup, pass from Me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” Matthew 26:39 Again, a comma placed in the wrong place can change thought, intent, and the motive of the heart. When Jesus was praying in Gethsemane, He had already publicly, privately, and adamantly declared He was to die to complete the “mystery”!! He had told the Jews publicly that “if I be not lifted not up, I cannot draw all men unto me.” John 12:32 Again, He railed on Peter with great vehemence when Peter even questioned Christ dieing. “Get thee behind Me, Satan: thou art an offense unto Me: for you do not desire the things that be of God (that Christ desires), but those that be of men. If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 16:23-24 “Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit. He that loves his life shall lose it: and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve Me, let him follow Me: and where I am, there shall also My servant be: if any man serve Me, him will My Father honor. Now is My soul troubled: and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify Thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” John 12:24-28 Isaac’s’ death as a sacrifice was without Isaac’s’ desire, Christ death was not only with His will, but His intent!! “Father, glorify Thou Me.” God, the Father would not have accepted Christ sacrifice if Christ had not willingly offered Himself!! “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up.” John 3:12 “Destroy this temple (naos- the habitation place of God) and in three days I will raise it up.” John 2:19 “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father has taught Me, I speak these things.” John 8:28
The words of the text of scripture is inspired, but the punctuation is not. Often the ignorance of the punctuation has been something we have mused about, but when the punctuation changes the announcement, intent, and purposes of God, we have to say something about it. When Christ p0rayed: “Father if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me.” Matthew 26:39, listen to what He is saying in the context of the prayer. When Jesus got ready to go home would a small thing like dieing, stop Him?? If returning back to the glory that He had with the Father before He came to this Earth, would He let a little thing like death, stop that?? If dieing on the cross of Calvary would allow Him to re-possess ALL those who had followed Him in the Old Testaments, would a little thing like dieing stop Him? If, IF, dieing on Calvary’s tree would allow Christ to be the emancipator of all who ever sinned and come short of the glory of God who would obey Him, would He let a little thing like death, stop Him??

The Last Week of Jesus Life Part 13

It is sad that some think man superior in commitment and loyalty than Christ our King. Forced to consider the preaching heard in many places, one has to think this to be true. Determination to duty is always a prerequisite of greatness and when this devotion to covenant is mocked one would think Christ not too great a Son! It was Christ that God the Father sent to Earth, it was Christ who covenanted before time or man to die for the redemption of His bride, the Church of Christ, it was Christ who possessed a different species than human who before His dealings with mankind NEVER was questioned about truth, faithfulness, or commitment to duty who now is questioned by they who claim to be devoted to Him. To show the ridiculousness of such a thought let us study about three men held in high esteem that were not considered among the greatest men of faith, yet confirmed in face of certain death what some of the “friends of our Lord”(?) deny of Him.
In Daniel 2 we have the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These were Jewish princes taken from Jerusalem during its overthrow by Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon. Whether you use their Judaic names Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah or their Babylonian names, these men by their commitment to faith and resolve make all men seem to come short of this worthy standard—but not the Son of God!! It is true that these young men were apart of the counsel of Daniel, Daniel 2:17, but their story of faith mocks they who claim Christ not the same resolve as mortal men who claim He whimpered and wanted to back of dieing at Calvary!!
In Daniel 3 the story quickens in pace when in verse 12 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were named as men who would not bow down and worship the image of the 78′ tall by 9′ wide gold statue of Nebuchadnezzar when the cornet, flute, harp, sack but, psaltery, and all kind of music played. Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were brought before the King. Most men would have broken before this type of pressure. They had a commitment to Jehovah God, one that they did not have to re-commit to every morning, one that was good only in good times, or one that caused them to be popular. What these three men did and said makes what our preachers say about Christ very atheistic!! “O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” Daniel 3: 16-18
I never hear preachers tell their audiences about the “human side” of these young Jews caused them to stutter or make prayer to God to let them by pass this ordeal. They never mention the “sweat that was as great drops of blood” nor the angel that visited in time of greatest fear, or quote His “great plea, let this cup, pass from Me” with the comma where they want it wanting to get out of His covenant with the Father to BUY His bride by His blood. Acts 20:28 WONDER WHY? Did Christ as One with the nature called God create a species that could be more in any sense than He?? Was Christ not the nobleman who came prepared to “give all He had” to buy the pearl of great price? Or is there a cowardice about Deity some of us just cannot see others can?? Was Shadrachh, Meshach, and Abednego greater than Christ??
Maybe there is something to not deciding before the trial is on you. Maybe the boys were a cut above Deity in fearlessness, or maybe they could keep their commitments and He, the Son of God could not!! The best time to decide a course of action is before the incident occurs. Did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego love God more than Christ?? Or was it that Christ could have taken a few lessons from them and kept His dignity under pressure?? He did know of their example did He not? Where did this atheism come from that has crept into some of the preaching heard, today??
Later in the book of Daniel, Daniel himself faced the same temptation (they claim it was temptation that finally got to Christ. He had never before been tempted like this.) Do we not know the “watcher” (angel) and “the holy one”? Daniel 4:17, 23 Belteshazzar revealed to Nebuchadnezzar what Obama has yet to learn: “the Most High rules in the kingdoms of men, and gives it to whomsoever He will.” Daniel 4:25 Could Christ not do on Earth what He could do from Heaven?
