Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 20

There are scriptures the Russellites try to use that support, they think, their position concerning the non-deity of Christ. The scriptures we will study, as you might expect, do NOT in any way teach their false doctrine. Their big argument is one not necessary to make; Jesus is the Son of God. They think that put Christ in an inferior position to God the Father. No one dis-believes this truth, but in what seems is He the Son?
To study again the truth on this will hurt none of us. Christ BECAME the Son of God at the resurrection from the grave!! “But God raised Him from the dead. And He was seen many days of them which came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses (notice none are these were from Brooklyn or were members of the Watchtower Tract and Bible Society!!) unto the people. And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that He raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, ‘Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten Thee’. And as concerning that He raised Him up from the dead, now no more to see return to corruption, He said on this wise, ‘I will give you the sure mercies of David.” Acts 13:30-34 we guess the real question is ‘when did Jesus become the Son of God”? It was NOT at His physical birth, it was NOT at His crucifixion, it was at His resurrection from the grave!! You might counter: “yet He repeatedly called Himself ‘Son of Man’ and ‘Son of God”? True, and that He was, but one has to remember that God “calls those things which be not as thought they were”! Romans 4:17b There might have been questions in the minds of some that God would raise Jesus from the dead, but those questions were NEVER in the Christ mind!! Again, the verb begotten in the Greek is in the perfect indicative active tense which tells us He became that FROM THAT MOMENT, not before that moment! The indicative mood in the Greek language is the only mood in which distinctions can regularly be made about the TIME WHEN an action occurs. The perfect indicative is that special tense where the significance of the perfect tense is at its height. The context of the Greek may emphasize either the completeness of the action or the finished results, NEVER REPEATED ACTION!! Jesus was begotten from the dead ‘And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” Romans 1:4 If He became the Son of God at the resurrection, what was He BEFORE He resurrected? Thomas adroitly answered the question very admirably. “Thomas answered, MY LORD AND MY GOD”!! John 20:28
Again, Jesus was playing a role. He BECAME flesh for one reason, John 1:14, to “dwell among us”. Before His physical birth, Christ was in every sense God. Christ is the God of the Old Testament the Jew offended. Matthew 23:34 Christ is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. John 8:58 Christ was the I AM that made Moses take off the shoes from off his feet in Midian! Acts 7:31-37 Christ is the Lord of David. Psalms 110:1-2 Christ is one of those who have the nature called God in the Old Testament referred to as JEHOVAH. Isaiah 9:6 Most often when I get to try to help a Russellite, I begin with Acts 17:23b, “whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, Him declare I unto you.”!! If you need more help on this, read the first of the next verse: “God that made the world and all things therein…” If you do not know who made “everything that is made”, let me introduce you to Him!! “For by Him were all things created, that are in Heaven, and that are in Earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, were created By Him, and For Him.” Colossians 1:16

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 19

The Jehovah’s Witnesses demand that Jesus is Michael the Archangel as mentioned in Revelations 12. Without saying, this immediately makes Jesus another type being and not God!!! It is a slick trick they pull when they take the unaware on a scriptural rampage through the Bible allowing them to come to a false conclusion without “rightly dividing the Word”!!
It is not a singularity that Jesus is referred to as another, if fact this is common in Scripture. When John the Baptist came preceding the Master, he was called the “Elijah which was to come”. Matthew 11:14 Did Jesus not really know who John was? Was the Holy Spirit confused? You have two members who have the nature called God who have made a mistake if They do not really know who John was and the last time I checked, God cannot make mistakes!! Does this mean Jesus and the Holy Spirit are not really God as the Witnesses claim?? David in prophecy called Christ LORD, yet Christ is the Son of David. Matthew 21:41-46; Mark 12:35-37, Luke 20:41-44 Again, was Christ David’s Son or was He his Lord, or was He both-and therefore called both names? When one had the personage of someone who preceded them in a family, like I did as a preacher of the gospel, are they not often called “little O.D”? Are these people confused? Do they believe in re-incarnation?? In Daniel, Michael came and held Satan at bay so Gabriel could get the message that he “was caused to fly swiftly” with as Daniel was praying about the end of the people Israel!! Daniel 9:23 The “prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood (did not allow Gabriel to proceed) with his delivered message for 21 days”. Daniel 10:13 Michael’s holding Satan at bay while Gabriel got the message to the people of God was known by all those whose studies had taken them to the book of Daniel. It was usual usage of personification, likeness in deed, and zeal in execution that would then give them the “name likeness” that was often received. We call those who give their lives for the cause of Christ a “Stephen”.
So, Christ withstood Satan while in His earthly ministry that the “Word of God” could be delivered by the Church. The “war in heaven” was a war for the hearts and minds of men. It was the apostles that waged this war after the resurrection of Jesus Christ!! “And there was war in heaven: Michael and His angels (the apostles) fought against the dragon (Satan): and the dragon (Satan) fought and his angels (the Pharisees and Sadducees), and prevailed not(they were not able to defeat the truth taught by Jesus and His apostles); neither was there place found any more in heaven (their position and prominence was destroyed even though it looked as though they had succeeded, Jesus had overcome sin and the separation from God was removed by repenting and being baptized for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38). And the great dragon was cast out (he lost his dominion over mankind when the blood of Christ was shed and man began meeting that blood in baptism Ephesians 1:7, Romans 6:3-7, 1 Peter 3:21, Revelations 1:5) that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceived the whole world (man could not realize just what sin had done to him): he was cast out into the earth.(he was removed from his domain, death no longer held sway over man because man knew Christ had overcome death!!, Hebrews 2:14-18)”
Finally, if Christ were Michael, the Archangel, He would be the equal of Satan, not his Lord!! Satan should have displayed this during the 40 day temptation, and he did not. The Russellites may not believe Jesus is God BUT SATAN BELIEVES THIS TRUTH—AND TREMBLES!!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 18

The Witnesses teach that Jesus is really just the Archangel Michael mentioned in the Old and New Testaments. Their argument goes something like this: Revelation 20:1 an angel comes down out of heaven and binds Satan. Revelation 12:7 Michael and His angels warred with Satan and his angels. In 1 Thessalonians 4:16 Jesus is to descend with the voice of the archangel. Daniel 12:1 Michael is seen standing for the people during the time of trouble (although they do not connect this with Matthew 24!). They then claim the angel was Jesus. They have Jesus as Michael in Jude vs 9 and Daniel 10:13. It used to be (I am told that it was in their writings) that they considered Michael Jackson as Michael the archangel when he was the biggest giver in their cult; today, he is trying to turn Muslim: some angel he is!!
Answer: Revelation 20:1 has nothing to do with Michael the archangel. If you will read the first chapter and first verse of the Revelation, it will tell you it is about Jesus Christ, not Michael, and the fulfillment of the prophesies of the Old Testament He, Christ fulfilled that was prophesied by the “servants”, the prophets. Amos 3:7, Jeremiah 7:25 Michael NEVER had the key to the pit (separation of the soul from God- Psalms 30:3, 88:3-7) OR the bottomless pit (eternal damnation, never ending separation). These keys are those who Jesus stands with in His hands in Revelation 1:17-18 and they are claimed by Christ when He was witnessed by God, the Father to be His Son in Matthew 16:18. It is Jesus who is described as “He who likewise took part in the same (physical flesh) that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death (a work of the devil), that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behooved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.” Hebrews 2:14-17 It was Jesus who appeared to “destroy the works of the devil”, Michael as great as he might be, could NEVER accomplish what it would take the Son of God to accomplish. A sacrifice of Michael would NEVER APPEASE, SATISFY God, the Father!! It is prophesied of Christ, “and the key of the house of David will I lay upon His shoulder; so He shall open, and none shall shut; and He shall shut, and none shall open.” It was Jesus who God, the Father gave the “sure mercies of David” (the resurrection from the grave- Acts 13:32-37) that all of us who are obedient to Him shall RISE AGAIN!! That is why the resurrection from the waters of baptism constitutes a picture of the resurrection from the physical grave that will hold our bodies, called the FIRST resurrection in Revelation 20:6. Christ freed man whom Satan has bound and cast Satan “into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled”. Revelation 20:2
Revelation 12:7 The 12th chapter of Revelation starts with the appearance of Christ from the womb of Mary. He is the child of 62 generations, reaching all the way back to Eve. When He is born, Satan tried to kill Him by Herod, verse 3, for the “man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to His throne” had come!! Israel then “fled into the wilderness” (ceased to be the deterrent of the evil one) while Christ preached for 3 ½ years. While Christ was on Earth, He was the One who stood between man and God as did Michael in Daniel 10:13, when Michael held Satan at bay so the message could get to the people of God.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 17

Jesus IS the Son of God!! It is evident that the scriptures refer to Christ as the Son. He is that, in a very unique sense. The Russellites claim Jesus is the Son of God by creation by God before the world existed. They then will tell you that Jesus again was the Son of God by human birth, of Mary. They have one more to add to this, they claim Christ the Son by a spiritual resurrection (not physical).
It is true that some truth is always in a lie. That Jesus BECAME what He was not before creation is a fact. He and the Father had a covenant mentioned several times in Holy Writ about a role He was to play in the redemption of mankind. Christ was happy to lay down His life to fulfill this role for it showed His love, respect, and agreement with the Will of the Father. It is like a man and woman getting married. Before the ceremony love has its bliss, both are equal in their positions of importance doing as they individually desire. When married, the change takes place. For women who do not understand nor desire a home, the complication of becoming subservient to their husband brings a lot of unhappy nights (and maybe a cessation of the union). Somebody has to be head; God tells us it is to be the man. You have heard the expression; “it’s lonely at the top”; man did not asked to take the lead role, God demanded it. The pressure and courage to lead the home cannot allow the stronger personality of the female to destroy their home because it is easier to surrender than stand, God has not so planned it this way and God knows best!! A man may say; “my wife will not allow me to be head”. At this crossroad the man has to determine just WHO will be his God!! Christ had no such problem with the Will of God the Father!! He became subservient to everything His role demanded. Yes, He was just as much God as the Father and the Spirit, that was never questioned, but He had a part to play in the redemption of mankind that no other member of the Godhead would play and with great joy He fulfilled that role. Christ is the ONLY God who condescended to deal with, live among, and tolerate sinners. God, the Father will not, Habakkuk 1:13. God the Spirit will only deal with man AFTER he or she has been bought by the blood of Christ. Acts 2:38, 5:32, Galatians 4:6. Christ became a “bridge-builder” to close the chasm between man and God, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, that was and is His job. Yes, He did become something different, before His agreement, covenant with the Father, He was answerable to nothing or no one!! John 1:1
The term “Son of” was used by the eastern peoples to primarily denote sameness. The term “father” also denoted sameness. Many references can support this statement—Genesis 4:20, 21, 17:4, Mark 3:17, Luke 10:6, John 17:12, Acts 4:36, are just a few. When Jesus called God, Father, the Jews took up stones to kill Him. John 10:30-36. Matthew 27:54 tells us the centurion said; “truly, this was the Son of God”. Luke records it; “certainly, this was a righteous Man.” Luke 23:47 Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”
The term “Son of God” could also be used as a title-showing equality! When the Title Messiah was used referring to Christ, it was a title, not a name. Matthew 16:16, 26:63, Mark 14:61, Luke 22:67-70, John 1:49, 11:27 THIS ROLE HAD A BEGINNING!! In the Old Testament we find plurality of persons in one God, and different functions of the three, but NOT SUBJECTION!! Subjection begins with the coming of Jesus of Nazareth, and God’s plan of redemption!!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 16

The book of Revelation is one of the most interesting books of the New Testament. Besides being the only book in the New Testament without the plan of salvation mentioned in it, it is very pregnant with verses that directly call Jesus Christ, God! It consistently speaks of the Risen Lord in terms of God. Revelations never speaks of Christ in the days of His sojourn in the human body in which He tabernacled, it tells of the victorious Lord with the seven golden lamp-stands, robed to His feet, with a golden girdle around His breast with hair as snow-white wool whose eyes were as flaming fire with feet as burning brass refined in a furnace, and His voice like the sound of rushing waters. This is the description of the Ancient of Days in Daniel 10:5-7 and the voice of God in Ezekiel 43:2. To put it another way John described the Risen Christ in precisely the same terms as the Old Testament writers used to describe GOD!!
In 1 John 5:7, a verse considered spurious by most so-called scholars of our time, the Witnesses make a big play. They build it up as one of the major texts used by “Trinitarians”: Hebrews 1:8 is another. “But unto the Son He saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever.” The Witnesses point out that it should be translated “Thy throne is God”. This rendering makes God the throne upon which Jesus sat, which is both nonsense and out of harmony with passages that put Jesus at the “right hand of God”. “Paul, an apostle (not from men, neither through man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father…” Galatians 1:1 This passage shows that Christ is not of, from, through man or men and is definitely not classified as man! It was THROUGH both Jesus and the Father; Jesus is ranked alongside the Father as the source-hence equal-to the Father.
Worship is a common word in the New Testament. It is found some 60 times, we are told, and are applied to a variety of things. It means to pay homage, reverence to anything. The only lawful receiver of worship is God: “The saith Jesus unto him, ‘Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord, thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.” When Cornelius met Peter for the first time, Cornelius “fell down at his feet and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, ‘Stand up; I myself also am a man.” Acts 10:25-26 In the book of Revelation the John falls down twice in an attempt to worship the speaker and both times is reprimanded. Revelations 19:10, 22:9 Jesus received and accepted worship of Himself!! Read Matthew 2:11, 6:2, 9:18, 14:33, 15:25, 20:20, 28:9, 28:17; John 9:38, and Hebrews 1:6
It has been argued that since Jesus is referred to as the Begotten Son of God, or the Only Begotten Son of God, that it means He was not Deity, but created in some age of the past. The Hebrew word yalad and the Greek word gennao are the words called into question. Psalms 2:7 and Hebrews 1:5 are examples of these words being used. The term only begotten is found several times and is used in reference to Christ and Isaac. See John 1:14, 18, 3:16, 18. When referencing Isaac see Hebrews 11:17. Isaac was not Abraham’s only son, nor his eldest. Ishmael was born before Isaac. Isaac, however, occupied the position of firstborn, and claimed title to the Only Begotten because he was the one of promise and purpose. The same is true in regard to Jesus. He came uniquely by promise with the purpose of human redemption. In this sense He is both Firstborn and Only Begotten. It helps us understand the uniqueness of both Jesus and Isaac when we understand Jesus and Isaac were the Only Promised Sons!! This is a term of uniqueness, not origin!! If the Jews had no trouble with Isaac being the only begotten then the Russellites should have no trouble with Christ being “only begotten”!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 15

The Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Jesus was NOT resurrected in the body, in which He died; that God the Father gave Him another body for the little while He was back on the surface of the planet. Of all the verses the Russellites should hope not to appear in Scripture is John 20:26-28. “And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut and stood in the midst, and said, ‘Peace be unto you”. Then saying He to Thomas, ‘Reach hither thy finger, and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not faithless, but believing.” And Thomas answered and said unto Him, “My Lord and my God.” And Jesus said unto him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”
Thomas was not present at the first visit with the risen Christ. Like some of my brethren, he must have not thought the Sunday evening service was worthy of his attendance!! I hope their plight is not as Thomas. Thomas missed the message of that evening delivered in person by the risen Lord. Because he missed the message, he was not prepared and therefore did not believe that Christ had truly risen!! John 20:24 Being his own man, Thomas was not intimidated by the witnesses of Christ visit and in verse 25 was very bold in his denunciation of their testimony. Like a lot of people, Thomas ran his mouth when he should have listened to the other brethren! What is worse, like our brethren of this day, Thomas had to face the Lord with his lack of faith!! Verse 28 IS NOT an exclamation of surprise and astonishment; it is an address to the Lord, a statement of belief!! This is evident from the words he responded and said—he answered and said. This would be out of place before an exclamation. It introduces a reply to what Jesus said, and shows a firmly convinced attitude that He was Lord and God!! Jesus accepted the declaration of Thomas by His statement in the next verse: “Jesus said unto him, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” Note: it was sight that convinced Thomas. He was convinced because he had SEEN the Lord, and it was truly Him!! The Jehovah’s (Lying) Witnesses state, remember, that Jesus appeared is some form assumed for the occasion, or was a phantom of some sort. Note: it was sight, it was the SAME BODY that had been crucified and Jesus was not daring him, Jesus was inviting Thomas to ‘REACH HITHER THY HAND, AND THRUST IT INTO MY SIDE’
It gets worse for the Lying Witnesses: Thomas called Jesus Lord and God!! Here, in John 20:28, the definite article appears!!! (You remember their argument about the ‘definite article’ don’t you?) In the margin of their 1951 edition of the New World Translation, they attempt to show by listing six scriptures (Exodus 22:8, Psalms 82:1, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1, John 1:18, John 10:35) that ‘my God” of John 20:28 really should be written “a god”. By their own lying they are trapped!! The definite article appears before THEOS is this passage!! It declares Jesus to be THE GOD!! They call Him Jehovah!! It would have been better for them to have left off their argument about the definite article they make such a stand with, would you not say??
I have often wondered why Thomas could have doubted that the Christ would not rise from the dead. He was with Christ at the resurrection of Lazarus; it was Thomas who chided the others about going to Jerusalem. I never have thought he had an improper motive for it was his immediate repentance that Jesus applauded. Who was in his seat the night of the resurrection, for there were 11 present? Mark 16:14, Matthew 28:16.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 14

The Russellites make a big argument about whether or not there is a definite article before some references to Christ. They make this in vain in reference to John 1:1 which states; “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God.” (*They want it to read; “and the Word was THE God”). The subject of the sentence is “Word” (Logos); the verb is “was”. There is no direct object in this verse; it is a predicate nominative that refers back to the subject, God. “God” (Theos) is the predicate nominative of “Word” and needs no article. In the Greek a noun may be definite for many reasons and it matters not if the definite article is present!! According to Colwel’s Rule (of the Greek language) a definite predicate nominative has the article when it follows the verb; it does not have the article when it precedes the verb. Context makes no demand on the definite article being in the writing either, for instance when Thomas confessed Christ in John 20:28 no definite article is found!! As already noted, what is stated in the opening of John’s gospel reaches its climax in the 20th chapter when Thomas confesses Christ before all the living disciples as “my Lord and my God”!! In John 1:6,12,13,18 there is the noun Theos, God, found. In no place is the definite article found!! In keeping with Russellite doctrine, the definite article MUST appear or the person or persons to which it is referring is not Deity. The New World Translation translates all these verses “God” not “a God”: wonder which little witness made this blunder?? In Matthew 16:16 and Acts 26:23 “the” is mentioned before Christ in the Greek New Testament; yet, in Romans 5:6 there is NO article in the original, YET, THE ATHEIST RUSSELLITES DO NOT TRANSLATE THIS “A CHRIST”!! It must be said that the Witnesses put in and take out the article as it pleases them and their damnable doctrine. When they want to make a doctrinal point to uphold, then it becomes crucial. Some cocky Russellites try to make “God” and “Logos” interchangeable terms (one is the same as the other), this is not true, “Logos” is the NAME of one being who has the nature called “God”, is this not like our individual social security number?
When Jesus made the statement “I and the Father are one.” John 10:30, He was not just saying He and the Father were one in purpose and attitude, Jesus was stating what the Jews took up stones to deny; that like the Father, Jesus is God!! In John 5:17-18 Jesus had had a previous confrontation about this truth. He had not changed His mind in John 10:30. In John 5:17 Jesus stated: “My Father worketh even until now, and I work.” That is, Jesus had as much right to work on the Sabbath as the Father. This put Him on equality with the Father. By the way, when Jesus called God, Father, He did is not the usual pronoun used. This pronoun is idios and is defined as equal in quality or in quantity, to claim for one’s self the nature, rank, authority, which belongs to the other, and the person making the claim is said to belong to one, above all others. The fact of God, the Father, being His father was unique, one of a kind!! The Russellites say that Jesus was claiming equality with the Judges and Prophets of Israel calling them gods, only. If this were true then Christ would be in error making them sin for no man can worship another, and if these men were gods, they were then to be worshipped!! I bet this frost old Charles Taze every time this verse is mentioned in Hell!!
Thomas was not present at the first encounter with the risen Christ and he doubted it to be true. He stated unless he SAW the risen Lord, he would not believe. It would have been good for the Russellites if this verse had not appeared in John’s writings, for it proves more that they are atheist than any other. We will start here next.

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 13

“Before Abraham was, I AM”. John 8:58 Again, Jesus tells us of His identity and eternality. The word was is in a tense of the Greek verb which means there was a specific act performed. The Greek word genesthai, was born, shows that Abraham was not timeless while the tense which Jesus tells us of Himself is the tense that is continuous, never beginning nor ever ending, called the present tense. The Being, the One who was, the One who is, the existing One is the proper translation of I AM. This is the claim of timeless existence!! This is the Jesus who met Moses on the mountain where the busy burnt but was not consumed. Exodus 3:14
Because Jesus made the preceding statement of John 8:58, the Jews took up stones to stone Him. The Law of Moses prescribed stoning for familiar spirits, Leviticus 20:27, blasphemy, Leviticus 24:10-16, being a false prophet, Deuteronomy 13:5-10, and to the surprise of most people a rebellious son, Deuteronomy 21:18-21, and adultery (rape) Deuteronomy 22:21 and Leviticus 20:10. For which of these wrongs were the Jews attempting to stone our Lord? They thought they had caught Him in blasphemy for which they attempted to do the same thing in John 10:30-33. By the way, on other occasions both John and Jesus called the Jews names that did not satisfy them, Matthew 12:34, 23:33, 3:7. On neither of these occasions did they attempt to stone Christ nor John the Baptizer.
Isaiah 8:13-14 and the more famous verse in Isaiah 9:6-7 tell of the Deity of Christ. In Isaiah 8 the word translated Lord is actually Jehovah. This verse is quoted by Peter in 1 Peter 2:8 where he writes: “And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto they were appointed.” Without question Isaiah 9:6 refers to Christ and verse 7 tells us He will set on the throne of David to order and establish it!!
One un-informed Russellite once asked; “if Jesus were God, where was His glory while He was here on Earth?” John 17:5 Christ cries out; “Father glorify Thou Me with Thine Own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.” They never get it!! If they would just read the Bible a little and not the Watch Tower Tract and Lying Society, they would know that while Christ was on Earth He “took the form of a servant, and being found in fashion as a servant was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross”. Philippians 2:7-8 Isaiah 42:8 says: “I Am the Lord: that is My name: and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.” Also, in Isaiah 48:11 Isaiah writes: “For Mine own sake, even for Mine own sake, will I do it: for how should My name be polluted? And I will not give My glory unto another.”
“Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel, and His redeemer, the Lord of Hosts; I AM the first, and I AM the last; and beside Me there is no God.” Isaiah 44:6 Again, “Hearken unto Me, O Jacob and Israel, My called; I AM He; I AM the first, I also Am the last.” Isaiah 48:12 Again, “I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end…”Revelations 1:17-18 Again, “These things saith the first and the last, who was dead, and lived again.” Revelations 2:8 Even with a bias, it is hard to understand how they could mistake this as the Christ of God!!
“Write not, the King of the Jews; but that He said I Am King of the Jews.” John 19:21 One would think Charles Taze Russell, Judge Rutherford, or Nathan Knor might have written this verse, but this also came from the Christ-killers in the first century!!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 12

According to the Concordances of the Old Testament, the name Jehovah occurs well over 5,000 times, none in the New Testament. Jehovah is the most precious name among the Jews for God. The term Elohim, which we know to mean, the Almighty, declares an attribute of that Deity. There are multiple times when more than one Jehovah occurs in a verse of scripture. This should show any thinking person that the name is not singularly speaking of just ONE who possesses the nature called God! Genesis 19:24, “Jehovah rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of Heaven.” Zechariah 2:8-9, “For thus saith Jehovah….and ye shall know that Jehovah hath sent me.” Zechariah 10:12, “And I will strengthen them in Jehovah, and they shall walk up and down in His name saith Jehovah.” In these passages the term Lord is the term translated from the original word Jehovah.
The name Jehovah defines a peculiarity about whoever is called by this name, it declares them ETERNAL GOD. When the two terms are used together in the scriptures in many places, as JEHOVAH ELOHIM, it declares indisputably that the two are the same, LORD GOD. Indeed there are many names given to Deity throughout the Bible, one author cataloging 280 titles and symbols of Christ, alone. The Russellites claim the word Jehovah occurs in the New Testament. This is completely false! The name “Jehovah” does not occur anywhere in the Greek Scriptures, it is not a Greek word. Many have looked for the word “baptism” in the Old Testament to the same end; baptism is not a Hebrew or Aramaic word and having never been transliterated, it would never occur in that language!! There are multiple places when “Jehovah” is combined with other words to define an action of God. An example would be Jehovah-Tisidkenu, it means the Lord our righteousness, or Jehovah-Sabaoth, this means “the Lord of Hosts”. Yes, it is true that in the New Testament the name Jehovah is not given in reference to Christ, only because the New Testament is written in the Greek language. It is easy to find that since Jesus, as the Logos, the Word, was a member of the Godhead, that the term Jehovah applies to Him, just as He was included in the term Elohim in Genesis 1, and is in the pluralities of Jehovahs in other passages. The easiest way to show this truth is to quote the Old Testament reference and the New Testament fulfillment. .
Exodus 3:14, “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM; and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” The term I AM is the Hebrew EHYEH, and is a present tense form of JAH, Jehovah. It is found in three places in the above passage, in Hebrew, where it is translated as I AM. The origin of the word is from the verb TO BE. It denotes timelessness in existence of the one who was, who is, and who is to come: the first and the last, the Alpha and Omega. John starts his epistle with this declaration and closes Revelation with its demand. It declares Christ (or any other member of Deity that is defines) as self-existent, that He lives by His own power without aid, help, comfort, or need from any other being! It declares Him Eternal. He lived in infinite ages before anything came into being!! It declares Him unchangeable. He always will be what He always was. He does not grow wiser every year; He is complete knowledge and wisdom, as well as substance!! It declares Him incomprehensible. What no man, angel, shall ever be able by searching to find out. What He is can neither be described nor imagined. Our strongest words fall infinitely short. And He is all-sufficient. He did not tell Moses what He is, He simply stated whatever it takes to make man happy, I AM!!! He was not boasting!!

Error of Jehovah’s Witnesses (a.k.a. The Russellites) Part 11

Is Jesus the Son of God? Did He become such? The Russellites claim Jesus is the Son of God through creation by God before the world existed, by Mary in human birth, and by the resurrection from the grave in the Spirit.
In eastern usage the terms “son of” and “father” primarily denoted sameness. Look at the verses where it is used and you will see for yourself. Genesis 4:20 states “Jabal was father of such as dwell in tents and have cattle.” Again, “Jabal was father of such as handle the harp and pipe”, verse 21 Abraham was father of many nations, Genesis 17:4 Now, for the “son of” usage. Mark 3:17 tells us James and John were the “sons of thunder” (they had a bad temper). Jesus calls peaceful men “sons of peace”. In John 17:12, Christ calls Judas the “son of perdition”. Barnabas is called the “son of consolation”, Acts 4:36, meaning he was a very helpful and consoling man. In John 10:30-36 there is no question that the Jews recognized that Jesus calling God His Father meant He was claiming to be God!
As discussed, when Jesus is called the Firstborn and Only Begotten, what is being taught is His position, not derivation. So to, when He is being called the Son of God it denotes the uniqueness of His position with respect to the Father! In all reality, the term Son of God is used as a title-equal to the title of Messiah which name is used as an equal title to both Christ and King of Israel. If you will read again the statements made by various people at the crucifixion of Jesus, you will see that they were very aware of the equality of these terms. Read Matthew 27:40, 43, Mark 15:32,Luke 23:35,37, 39.
Hebrews 1:5 cites a statement which must be understood as a dual prophecy. “I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son.” This dual prophecy is given of both Solomon and Christ. It is the picture of relationship of father to son, of the subordination of the son to the father. In reference to Christ, it speaks of His coming into the world and the role He would play of submission to the Father. In reference to Hebrews 1:5, the Book says more than meets the eye. The sense of servitude DID NOT pre-exist Christ coming into the world by Mary. In like fashion Philippians 2:8 teaches the same time constraints. Watch: “and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death, even the death of the cross.” Being found, humbled, becoming, are all in the Aorist tense which denotes a time in which this all began. There was a time when Jesus began His servitude; the time was WHEN He came into the world!! Verse 6 of this chapter tells He “existed in the form of God”. “Existing” denotes a continuous action; it is in the present tense. If He became a servant when He came into the world, that’s when it began, then He wasn’t a servant of God BEFORE He came into the world!! Again, in Hebrews 5:8, “though He were a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which He suffered.” shows there was a time WHEN He was NOT a man, to learn as a man to obey. The learning took place AFTER He was born of Mary!! In the Old Testament, we find plurality of persons in one God, and different functions of the three, BUT NOT IN SUBJECTION. We see where Jehovah sends Jehovah to Sodom and Gomorrah, but one is NOT in subjection to the other, this is done by mutual agreement!! Genesis 1:26 teaches us “And God said, Let Us make man…” Here, and in other passages, the term for God is plural, with plural pronouns. It shows mutual agreement in the Godhead!! Jesus WAS NOT created, born, did not begin to be, nor was He caused to become. He is the ancient one “who inhabited eternity”, Himself the “creator of all things”, and the “originator”.
