Did the Old Testament Greats Understand God’s Plan? Part 25

This entry is part 25 of 45 in the series Did the Old Testament Greats Understand God's Plan?

Recap Part 24: “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment. By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward” (Hebrews 11:23-26).

Part 25

Moses spoke with God in the burning bush. He told Moses his name: I AM. Now what was he going to do? Who would believe this story? Exodus 2: 29-31 says: “And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel: And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.”

Moses told God he was not eloquent with his words. He feared everything. God, however, had a plan for Moses. He would stand before the Pharoah and ask him to let the Israelites go. Not only would he communicate his, God’s, message but would also perform God’s miracles.

1. Exodus 7:10 – Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 2. Exodus 7:20 – He lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh,

and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 3. Exodus 8:6 – Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered

the land of Egypt. 4. Exodus 8:17 – Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became

lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. 5. Exodus 8:24 – And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies. 6. Exodus 9:6 – And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the

cattle of the children of Israel died not one. 7. Exodus 9:10 – And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up

toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast. 8. Exodus 9:23 – And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and

the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. 9. Exodus 10:13 – And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 10. Exodus 10:22 – And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all

the land of Egypt three days. 11. Exodus 11:5 – And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.

How do you think Moses responded to the miracles God was allowing him to perform? He must have been exceedingly fearful, but also must have had enormous faith. He was able to see the power of God unlike Christians today. “Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed” (John 20:29). We must be strengthened daily in our faith in God, understand its importance and grasp it with all your might. Erase all doubts from your mind and work out your salvation. Christ has done his part can you say the same? What did Moses know?
